Three Dead as Bus, Truck Collide in Andhra Pradesh

Nandyal (Andhra Pradesh): At least three people were killed and several others sustained injuries after a private passenger bus collided head-on with a container truck and burst into flames in Andhra Pradesh’s Nandyal district early Thursday morning, police officials said.
The accident occurred around 2 am near Shirivellametta village in Shirivella mandal when the bus, travelling from Nellore to Hyderabad, reportedly suffered a sudden tyre burst. The driver lost control of the vehicle, crossed the central divider and rammed into an oncoming container lorry.

Drivers Charred Beyond Recognition

The impact of the collision triggered an intense fire that engulfed both vehicles within minutes. The bus driver, the container truck driver and the truck cleaner were trapped inside their vehicles and were charred to death, officials confirmed.

Due to the severity of the blaze, the bodies were burnt beyond recognition, complicating immediate identification. Police teams later recovered the remains after firefighters brought the flames under control.

Passengers Trapped as Emergency Exit Failed

There were 36 passengers onboard the bus at the time of the accident. Panic ensued as flames rapidly spread across the bus, while both the main door and emergency exit reportedly failed to open.

Several passengers were initially trapped inside, struggling to escape the smoke and fire. The situation could have turned far more tragic had it not been for timely intervention by a passerby.

DCM Driver’s Brave Act Saves Lives

A driver of a DCM vehicle passing through the area noticed the burning bus and immediately stopped to help. He broke open the bus windows, allowing passengers to jump out and flee from the raging fire.

Police officials credited the driver’s swift action for preventing a much higher death toll, calling it a crucial factor in saving several lives.

Over 10 Injured, Condition Stable

More than 10 passengers sustained burn injuries, while others were hurt after jumping from the bus during the rescue attempt. All injured passengers were rushed to the Nandyal Government General Hospital.

Hospital authorities stated that the injured are currently stable and receiving medical treatment. No further fatalities have been reported so far.

Vehicles Reduced to Ashes, Traffic Disrupted

The massive fire completely gutted both the bus and the container lorry. Passengers’ luggage and personal belongings were also destroyed in the blaze.

Traffic on the busy route remained disrupted for several hours as police and emergency personnel conducted rescue operations and cleared the debris. Normal traffic was restored later in the morning.

Investigation Underway

Nandyal district police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the crash. Statements from injured passengers are being recorded.

Officials said preliminary findings point to the tyre burst as the immediate cause, though mechanical inspections and further inquiries are ongoing.

Road safety experts have once again stressed the importance of regular vehicle maintenance and emergency preparedness to prevent such deadly incidents.
