Tribal Spirit Meets Yoga: Minister Oram’s Grand Vision

Yoga Day 2025: Tribal Energy to Power National Celebrations

As India gears up to celebrate the 10th International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2025, Union Tribal Affairs Minister Shri Jual Oram is steering efforts to ensure that this year’s observance becomes a vibrant blend of modern wellness and indigenous traditions. With over 10 lakh tribal citizens and 1.4 lakh EMRS students expected to participate, the stage is set for a unique community-led celebration.

Inclusive Yoga: From Forests to Global Forums

Chairing a high-level review in New Delhi, Shri Oram called for inclusive participation and grassroots-level celebrations in tribal areas. He emphasised that Yoga is not just a physical routine—it is a path to harmony between the body, mind, and spirit. Tribal communities, deeply connected to nature, naturally align with these principles.

“Yoga is a journey. For tribal societies, it’s part of their lived culture,” said the Minister.

To ensure effective coordination, the Minister directed active collaboration with:

Mass Mobilization via Dharti Aaba Campaign

The Yoga Day events are being organized under the Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan (June 15–30), a Ministry-led campaign focused on awareness and benefit saturation in tribal belts. The campaign includes:

The government will also leverage digital platforms, community radio, and tribal influencers to spread the message of holistic health.

EMRS Students at the Heart of the Movement

One of the key highlights this year will be the participation of 477 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs), where around 1.4 lakh tribal students will perform synchronized Yoga sessions.

These schools will also host awareness camps, focusing on:

This initiative is not just about celebration—it’s about mainstreaming tribal knowledge systems and empowering future generations.

Harmony of Healing Traditions

What sets this year’s celebration apart is the recognition of tribal wellness practices. Many tribal communities have long followed natural healing, breathing techniques, and spiritual rituals that echo the essence of yoga.

By spotlighting these traditions alongside modern yoga, the Ministry aims to:

Way Forward: Yoga as a Unifying Force

The Minister’s review underlines a powerful message: Yoga is not urban or elite—it belongs to everyone. And when tribal voices join the national chorus, the spirit of “One Earth, One Health” truly comes alive.

The Ministry’s strategic planning ensures that the 10th anniversary of Yoga Day becomes more than a ritual. It evolves into a symbol of inclusion, tradition, and transformation.
