Phase-wise Roadmap for Regional Growth
Tripura CM presented a comprehensive, phase-wise roadmap to enhance logistics, multimodal connectivity, cross-border trade corridors, and digital and power enablers. Emphasizing the need for treating the Northeast as a unified region, he underscored coordination among Central Ministries including Roads & Highways, Railways, Civil Aviation, Ports, Power, IT & Telecom, and Petroleum & Natural Gas, along with proactive resolution of forest and environmental clearance challenges.
Mizoram CM highlighted the state’s potential as a regional gateway to neighboring countries under the Act East Policy. He emphasized accelerated deliberations on connectivity projects like the Kaladan Multi Modal Transit Transport Project and the importance of border trade, logistics, and institutional support.
Union Minister’s Observations
Union Minister Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia appreciated the roadmap proposed by Tripura CM and noted that effective execution would require active collaboration between Central Ministries and NER state governments. He suggested that inputs from Line Ministries such as MoRTH, MoPower, MoRailways, and NITI Aayog be considered before finalizing the Task Force report.
Background of HLTF Initiative
Earlier in 2025, MDoNER formed eight High-Level Task Forces, each headed by a Chief Minister of a Northeastern state, with Union Minister and three other NE Chief Ministers as members. The initiative stems from a consensus reached during the 72nd Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) held in December 2024 at Agartala, aiming to make the Northeast India’s engine of growth and gateway to Southeast Asia.
