TTDF Symposium 2025 Sparks R&D Synergies in Telecom

RR Team, June 22, 2025June 21, 2025

TTDF Symposium 2025 Sparks Telecom R&D Collaborations at IIT Madras

The TTDF Symposium 2025, organized by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) under the Ministry of Communications, concluded successfully on 21st June at the prestigious IIT Madras Research Park, Chennai. This three-day event (June 19–21) brought together a vibrant community of researchers, innovators, government officials, and industry leaders to propel indigenous telecom innovation in India.

This year’s symposium served not only as a project review platform but also as a collaborative ground to align ongoing R&D efforts with India’s digital goals, especially under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Jai Anusandhan initiatives.

A Platform for Synergy and Innovation

The symposium hosted over 500 participants, including:

  • Principal Investigators of TTDF-funded R&D projects

  • Senior officials from DoT, Bharat 6G Alliance, TSDSI, C-DoT, and COAI

  • Representatives from top telecom companies and startups

Dr. Neeraj Mittal, Secretary (Telecom), inaugurated the event, highlighting the government’s commitment to building a self-reliant telecom ecosystem through indigenous R&D.

Key Highlights from TTDF Symposium 2025

🔬 Over 120 Project Presentations

From 6G networks to quantum communication and AI-driven IoT platforms, over 120 sanctioned projects demonstrated India’s leap into the future of telecom. Emerging domains like Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) and Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) also gained spotlight.

🧠 Mentor-Led Knowledge Sharing

Mentors and domain experts facilitated deep-dive sessions that:

  • Highlighted inter-project synergies

  • Suggested shared procurement and infrastructure strategies

  • Discussed scalability and deployment readiness

🏗️ Showcase of Multi-Core Fiber (MCF) Testing Facility

One of the symposium’s most awaited sessions was the unveiling of the MCF Testing Facility, now open to academia and industry for advanced research and testing.

Government-Startup-Academia Partnership in Action

The TTDF initiative is a flagship funding program aimed at developing and commercializing homegrown telecom technologies. Projects displayed at the symposium demonstrated the blending of academic excellence, industry insight, and policy support.

Sessions led by senior DoT officials provided much-needed clarity on technical, financial, and administrative norms for project execution—crucial for early-stage startups and academic institutions navigating the innovation pipeline.

The Road Ahead: From Labs to Market

The closing session, attended by DDG (TTDF) and DDG (SRI), summarized the key takeaways of the symposium. Major points included:

  • Encouraging the transformation of innovations into Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs)

  • Promoting inter-institutional collaboration among grantees

  • Creating pathways for commercialization and industry adoption

These discussions are expected to shape policy tweaks, funding alignment, and innovation strategies going forward.

Accelerating Indigenous Telecom Innovation

With India moving toward Bharat 6G and building secure, scalable, and sustainable telecom infrastructure, the TTDF Symposium 2025 stands as a testament to the country’s growing research capabilities.

The success of this year’s event reaffirms the government’s resolve to turn R&D efforts into real-world impact—from rural connectivity to quantum encryption.
