Two JeM Militants Killed in Kishtwar Encounter, Arms Recovered

In a decisive joint operation, two Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants were killed in a forested area of Chatroo in Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday. Among the slain is believed to be Saifullah, a top JeM commander actively involved in multiple attacks on security forces over recent years.
A defence spokesperson from Jammu stated that the operation, codenamed Operation Trashi-I, was launched based on verified intelligence inputs from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Intelligence Bureau, and other sources. The joint effort involved the Army, police, and CRPF personnel targeting militants hiding in the challenging terrain of Chatroo.

Troops from CIF Delta, coordinating closely with local police and paramilitary forces, engaged the militants around 11 am. “Our teams displayed tactical precision, seamless coordination, and resolute aggression, ultimately neutralizing two militants,” the spokesperson confirmed. Two AK-47 rifles and other war-like materials were recovered at the encounter site.

Saifullah, one of the region’s most wanted militants, had previously escaped multiple operations. He had been involved in several violent incidents targeting security personnel, making his elimination a significant success for counter-terror operations in the area.

Background and Ongoing Security Measures

Security forces have been actively conducting large-scale search operations in Chatroo and adjacent forests since January 18, following an encounter in which a para commando was killed and others injured. The authorities continue to maintain high alert across Kishtwar and neighboring districts to prevent further militant infiltration.

The operation underscores the ongoing efforts by the Indian security forces to maintain law and order and neutralize terror threats in Jammu and Kashmir. According to official sources, intelligence-led operations remain a priority to track and dismantle active militant networks.

Regional Impact

The killing of Saifullah and his associate is expected to disrupt JeM’s operational planning in the region. Authorities continue to monitor potential retaliatory threats. Security has been reinforced in sensitive areas, and local populations have been advised to report suspicious activities immediately.

Analysts note that coordinated efforts between the Army, police, and paramilitary forces have been instrumental in recent counter-terror successes in Jammu and Kashmir. The operation also highlights the role of intelligence sharing and rapid deployment in hostile and forested terrains.
