In an ongoing counter-terrorism operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, four soldiers sustained injuries during a fierce gunbattle with terrorists, a senior army officer confirmed. The encounter began after security forces, acting on intelligence inputs, launched a joint operation with the Jammu and Kashmir Police in the Chatroo area. Contact with the terrorists was established around 3:30 PM, leading to a heavy exchange of fire. The army has confirmed that the operation is still underway.
In a separate encounter in Kathua, troops from the Rising Star Corps successfully neutralized two terrorists. The operations in both regions are part of ongoing efforts to counter insurgency in the state.
The White Knight Corps, which is overseeing the Kishtwar operation, posted updates on X, confirming that the gunbattle continues as security forces work to neutralize the remaining threats in the region.
Sources revealed that the terrorists involved in the Kishtwar encounter were linked to a previous incident in Doda in July, where four soldiers, including an officer, were killed. The latest encounters come just days ahead of the assembly elections scheduled for September 18 in eight constituencies across the Chenab valley region, which includes Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban districts, as well as 16 constituencies in South Kashmir’s Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian, and Kulgam districts.
The security operations are being closely monitored, with authorities taking all measures to ensure the safety of civilians and the smooth conduct of the upcoming elections.
