Tyler Robinson Confesses in Texts After Killing Charlie Kirk

In a chilling development, prosecutors revealed that Tyler Robinson, the alleged killer of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, admitted to the crime in private text messages to his roommate, Lance Twiggs. The exchange, included in a newly filed indictment, offers disturbing details of the planned assassination that shocked the United States last week.

The Murder and Immediate Confession

On September 10, 2025, Charlie Kirk, 31, was fatally shot during a student Q&A event at Utah Valley University (UVU) in Orem. Authorities say Robinson used a scoped .30-06 hunting rifle, reportedly belonging to his grandfather, to carry out the attack around 12:20 p.m. local time.

Less than three hours later, Robinson messaged Twiggs, instructing him to look under his keyboard. There, Twiggs discovered a note that read: “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it.” Prosecutors said the text exchange confirms Robinson’s direct admission to the killing.

Disturbing Text Messages

When Twiggs confronted him via text, Robinson allegedly replied: “I am. I’m sorry.” He also expressed regret for involving Twiggs, who is reported to be in the process of transitioning and has been described as Robinson’s partner.

In additional messages, Robinson confessed to stashing the rifle in bushes near the university after changing his clothes. He wrote about worrying how his father would react if he failed to return the weapon. “How the f— will I explain losing it to my old man,” Robinson allegedly said.

Charges and Legal Proceedings

Robinson was formally charged on September 16 with multiple counts, including aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, and felony discharge of a firearm causing serious injury. In total, seven charges have been filed against him.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox condemned the attack and signaled support for the death penalty in the case. “We will hold you accountable to the furthest extent of the law,” he stated in a press conference following Kirk’s murder.

Investigation and Cooperation

Authorities confirmed that Twiggs is cooperating with the investigation and has not been charged. Prosecutors say the roommate’s testimony and the recovered digital evidence are central to building the case against Robinson.

The incident has reignited debates over gun violence and political extremism in the United States. Kirk, a controversial conservative figure, had built Turning Point USA into one of the most prominent student-based political organizations in the country.

Broader Impact

The murder has sent shockwaves across political circles, with tributes pouring in from supporters and critics alike. Prominent leaders, including former U.S. Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, have publicly expressed grief over Kirk’s death.

As legal proceedings continue, the chilling text trail left behind by Robinson underscores the premeditated nature of the crime and the deeply personal dynamics intertwined with it.
