Udhampur’s Basantgarh: 2 Terrorists Eliminated

RR Team, February 5, 2026February 5, 2026

Srinagar: Security forces on Tuesday eliminated two terrorists during a coordinated counter-terror operation in the Basantgarh area of Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir, the Army said.

The operation, codenamed Operation KIYA, was conducted jointly by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in the Jophar forest area of Basantgarh.

According to Army officials, contact with the terrorists was established a day earlier following specific intelligence inputs. Security forces then launched a well-coordinated cordon and search operation to prevent the militants from escaping.

Calibrated Response Leads to Neutralisation

Officials said sustained pressure was maintained on the terrorists after contact was established. The militants were prevented from breaking contact, eventually leading to their neutralisation.

“Following a calibrated and coordinated response, two terrorists have been successfully neutralised,” an Army spokesperson said, adding that the operation demonstrated high levels of professionalism and tactical precision.

The Army highlighted the seamless coordination among all participating agencies, describing the operation as a textbook example of joint counter-terror action.

Area Remains Under Surveillance

While the operation has been formally concluded, officials said the area remains under close surveillance as a precautionary measure.

Additional troops have been deployed to dominate the surrounding forested terrain and ensure that no other militants are hiding in the vicinity.

Security agencies are also conducting searches to rule out the presence of any explosive material or logistical support networks in the area.

White Knight Corps Confirms Operation Details

In a post on X, the Army’s White Knight Corps said Operation KIYA was launched based on precise intelligence provided by the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

The post said troops of CIF Delta, operating under White Knight Corps, planned and executed the operation in coordination with the J&K Police and the CRPF. Reinforcements were deployed to strengthen the cordon and ensure effective area domination.

“This prevented any attempt by the terrorists to flee the area,” the post noted, reiterating that the operation concluded successfully.

Counter-Terror Operations Continue in Jammu Region

The encounter comes amid heightened counter-terror activity in the Jammu region, particularly in forested and mountainous belts that have seen attempts by militants to regroup.

Security forces have intensified intelligence-based operations to disrupt infiltration routes and neutralise terrorist modules operating in remote areas.

Officials have repeatedly stressed that close coordination between the Army, police and central forces remains key to maintaining security in the region.

Focus on Intelligence and Area Domination

Experts say operations like KIYA underscore the growing emphasis on actionable intelligence and swift joint responses.

Authorities have also urged local residents to cooperate with security agencies and report any suspicious activity. The government has reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and security across Jammu and Kashmir.
