Ujjain to Host Global Spiritual Tourism Conclave 2025

The ancient city of Ujjain, home to the revered Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga, will host PHDCCI’s 2nd Global Spiritual Tourism Conclave on 27 August 2025. The event, titled “रूहmantic,” is being organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board. It aims to position India’s spiritual heritage as a global attraction while fostering dialogue between government, industry, and spiritual leaders.

High-Profile Inauguration

The conclave will be inaugurated by Dr. Mohan Yadav, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, and Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister for Tourism and Culture. Spiritual leader Gauranga Das Prabhu will deliver the keynote address, setting the spiritual tone for the day-long deliberations.

Senior bureaucrats including Suman Billa (IAS), Additional Secretary & Director General, Ministry of Tourism, and Sheo Shekhar Shukla (IAS), Principal Secretary – Tourism, Government of Madhya Pradesh, will also address the gathering.

Launch of Report on Spiritual Tourism

A key highlight of the event will be the release of the PHDCCI–KPMG Report on Spiritual Tourism, titled “Faith & Flow: Navigating Crowds in India’s Sacred Spaces.” The report is expected to provide insights into managing temple crowds, promoting sustainable tourism, and balancing faith with modern hospitality practices.

Thematic Sessions to Explore Temple Economies

The conclave will feature multiple panel discussions, addressing topics at the intersection of faith, economy, and modernisation:

  • Temple Economies: Exploring how temple circuits sustain livelihoods and support local businesses.
  • Mahakal’s Mandala: Understanding Ujjain’s spiritual significance while planning for urban growth.
  • Mind, Body & Soul: Positioning yoga, Ayurveda, and wellness tourism as the new frontiers of spirituality.
  • Divine in the Digital: Examining the role of AI, VR, and digital platforms in expanding access to spirituality.
  • Guardians of the Sacred Axis: Discussing the cultural significance of India’s 12 Jyotirlingas.

Roundtable and Temple Visits

A Government–Industry Roundtable, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, will bring policymakers and business leaders together to discuss infrastructure needs, responsible tourism, and cultural promotion.

Delegates will also visit Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple and Kal Bhairav Temple, offering them a direct experience of Ujjain’s spiritual heritage.
