UK Foreign Secretary Meets Prime Minister Modi

On June 7, 2025, Rt Hon David Lammy, the UK Foreign Secretary, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi. The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen India-UK ties. They focused on trade, security, and cooperation.

India-UK Free Trade Agreement Achieves Success

PM Modi expressed satisfaction with the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA). He called the deal a major achievement. Alongside this, both countries completed the Double Contribution Convention. PM Modi praised the efforts of both sides. He said their teamwork helped reach these important agreements.

Growing Partnership Between India and the UK

The Prime Minister welcomed the steady growth in bilateral relations. He highlighted the deepening Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. PM Modi noted ongoing cooperation under the Technology Security Initiative. He said this initiative will help build trusted, secure innovation networks between India and the UK.

UK Shows Strong Interest in Cooperation

Foreign Secretary Lammy spoke about the UK’s keen interest in closer ties. He listed key areas: trade, investment, defence, security, technology, innovation, and clean energy. Lammy said the FTA will unlock new economic opportunities. Both countries will benefit greatly.

Leaders Discuss Regional and Global Issues

The leaders exchanged views on major regional and global matters. Lammy strongly condemned the recent Pahalgam terror attack in India. He showed full support for India’s fight against cross-border terrorism.

PM Modi stressed that the world must act decisively against terrorism. He urged countries to target terrorists and their supporters without delay.

Invitation to UK Prime Minister

Before concluding, PM Modi sent warm greetings to UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. He also renewed an invitation for Sir Keir to visit India soon. The visit will be planned at a time convenient to both sides.

Summary

This meeting marks a positive chapter in India-UK relations. Both leaders showed strong will to work together on many fronts. The Free Trade Agreement will boost trade and investments. Both sides also confirmed their commitment to fight terrorism together.
