Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah participated in a significant health awareness event organised by the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) in New Delhi on the occasion of World Liver Day. Speaking as the Chief Guest, he emphasized the vital role of the liver in human health and encouraged all citizens to pledge towards maintaining a healthy lifestyle that supports liver wellness.
In a heartfelt address, Shri Shah highlighted the importance of awareness, commitment, and knowledge in caring for one’s liver. Describing it as the gateway to a healthy body, he pointed out that the liver’s regenerative capacity makes it unique, but also requires conscious care. He shared personal reflections on adopting a healthier lifestyle since May 2020, urging the youth to prioritise water, nutrition, exercise, and sleep as essential pillars of success and longevity.
Shri Shah praised the launch of the HEALED initiative by ILBS, a campaign designed to spread awareness about liver health across the nation. He expressed confidence in the program’s potential to bring meaningful change and promote preventive care. Drawing from ancient wisdom, he noted that the world is now embracing the Vedic principle of “Aahaar Hi Aushdhi Hai”—food as medicine—underscoring how diet plays a central role in disease prevention.
He lauded the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the last decade to improve public health infrastructure and outcomes through a holistic approach. From promoting yoga and mental well-being to ensuring access to affordable healthcare, Shri Shah detailed the government’s commitment through major schemes such as Ayushman Bharat, Jan Aushadhi, and Mission Indradhanush.
The Minister cited impressive statistics: a sharp increase in the number of AIIMS, medical colleges, and MBBS seats, as well as a nearly fourfold rise in the health budget. He spoke of the transformational impact of the e-Sanjeevani platform, which has facilitated over 30 crore digital consultations, bringing quality medical advice to rural India.
Acknowledging the crucial role of collaboration, Shri Shah called upon the corporate sector to promote liver health awareness through their CSR initiatives and support organisations like ILBS. He also encouraged the media to contribute by including health messages in their content, amplifying the reach of public health campaigns.
In a compassionate appeal, Shri Shah reassured citizens that while they should focus on balanced diet, hydration, rest, and exercise, the Modi government remains steadfast in its responsibility to provide accessible and quality healthcare for all. His message was clear and empathetic: a healthier India is not only possible but essential, and it starts with each individual taking the first step toward mindful living.
