The event will include a ceremonial lamp lighting, followed by the official Switch-on ceremony where the solar plant will be activated. The installation of this rooftop solar power plant is part of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 15th February 2024. This initiative aims to position India as a global leader in renewable energy by promoting clean and affordable power nationwide. Under this Yojana, solar panels are being installed on government buildings and private homes across the country. The ultimate goal is to ensure that all government offices in India are fully powered by solar energy, demonstrating the country’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and combating climate change.
This ambitious plan of 100% Solarization reflects the government’s intention to lead by example, transitioning public administration towards energy efficiency. It sets a benchmark for sustainability by utilizing abundant solar resources and reducing reliance on non-renewable energy.
In addition to addressing environmental challenges, this project creates economic opportunities in the renewable energy sector, from manufacturing to installation and maintenance. Each panel has a rated power of 550 watts peak (WP) under standard test conditions, with a daily power generation capacity of 500 to 700 units. This project demonstrates the potential for significant energy savings and a reduced carbon footprint.
