UP CM Yogi Adityanath Appeals for Calm After Maha Kumbh Stampede

RR Team, January 29, 2025

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has urged devotees in Prayagraj to avoid the Sangam Nose area following a tragic stampede at the Triveni Sangam during the Maha Kumbh Mela. He advised pilgrims to perform their sacred baths at alternative ghats along the Ganga to ensure safety while rescue operations continue.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, January 29, 2025, as massive crowds gathered for the holy dip on Mauni Amavasya. Following the tragedy, security forces, including the Rapid Action Force (RAF), have been deployed to manage the crowd and assist with relief efforts.

PM Modi and Amit Shah Monitor the Situation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been in constant touch with CM Yogi Adityanath, calling him twice within an hour to assess the situation and direct urgent relief measures. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also assured full support from the central government.

Rescue Operations Underway

Authorities have shifted the injured to the central hospital inside the Mela grounds for treatment. Reports suggest at least 15 bodies have been brought to the hospital, though officials are yet to confirm the final casualty count.

Seers Call Off Amrit Snan

Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad president Mahant Ravindra Puri announced that seers have postponed their scheduled Amrit Snan due to the unfortunate incident. Meanwhile, the Mela administration has started dispersing crowds to prevent further mishaps.

CM Yogi has urged the public to follow official instructions, avoid misinformation, and cooperate with authorities to ensure a peaceful and safe continuation of the Maha Kumbh celebrations.
