CRS Trial Confirms Stability and Safety at High Speed
During the trial run, comprehensive technical assessments were carried out to evaluate ride stability, oscillation levels, vibration behavior, braking efficiency, emergency braking response, and the overall performance of onboard safety systems. According to railway officials, the train demonstrated excellent stability and control throughout the high-speed run.
The CRS declared the trial successful after confirming that all critical safety and performance benchmarks were met, validating the train’s readiness for future operational deployment.
Railway Minister Highlights Technological Achievement
Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, shared a video of the high-speed trial on social media, showcasing the train’s exceptional ride quality. A water-glass stability test, where glasses filled with water remained steady without spillage even at top speed, underscored the advanced suspension and engineering precision of the train.
The demonstration highlighted Indian Railways’ growing capability to design and manufacture world-class rolling stock entirely within the country.
Designed for World-Class Long-Distance Travel
The Vande Bharat Sleeper Train features a 16-coach configuration specifically designed for long-distance journeys. It combines speed, comfort, and safety, offering passengers a premium travel experience comparable to global standards.
Passenger-centric amenities include ergonomically designed sleeper berths, automatic plug doors, modern bio-vacuum toilets, digitally enabled passenger information systems, and fully sealed wide gangways that enhance comfort and noise insulation.
Advanced Safety and Energy-Efficient Systems
The train is equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety technologies, including the indigenous KAVACH automatic train protection system. Crashworthy semi-permanent couplers, anti-climbers, and fire barrier doors further enhance passenger safety.
Additional features include aerosol-based fire detection and suppression systems, CCTV surveillance across all coaches, emergency talk-back units for passenger communication, and centralized coach monitoring for real-time diagnostics of critical onboard systems.
Inclusive and Sustainable Design
Special attention has been given to inclusivity, with dedicated lavatories for Divyangjan passengers provided in the driving coaches at both ends of the train. Energy efficiency is addressed through regenerative braking systems and advanced air-conditioning units fitted with indigenously developed UV-C lamp-based disinfection technology.
These features align with Indian Railways’ broader sustainability goals while ensuring a healthier travel environment for passengers.
Paving the Way for Sleeper Vande Bharat Services
The successful completion of the CRS high-speed trial clears a critical regulatory milestone, bringing India closer to the launch of Vande Bharat Sleeper services on long-distance routes. The train is expected to significantly reduce travel times while offering a safer and more comfortable alternative to conventional sleeper trains.
This development underscores Indian Railways’ transformation into a technology-driven, passenger-focused transport system capable of meeting future mobility demands.
