Indian Diaspora as a Living Bridge
The Vice-President noted that Prime Minister Modi highlighted the Indian diaspora as a “living bridge” between India and Malaysia, playing a crucial role in strengthening bilateral relations through culture, commerce, education, and shared values.
Malaysia is home to one of the largest Indian-origin communities in Southeast Asia, many of whom trace their roots back several generations. The Prime Minister’s outreach was seen as a recognition of their contribution to Malaysia’s development and their enduring emotional connection with India.
Emphasis on Shared History and Culture
Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan highlighted that the Prime Minister’s address placed strong emphasis on the historical and cultural bonds that link India and Malaysia. From ancient maritime trade routes to the spread of Indian languages, art, and philosophy, the relationship between the two countries has evolved over centuries.
The Vice-President stated that such references reinforce India’s civilisational continuity and help younger generations of the diaspora reconnect with their heritage in a meaningful way.
Celebration of Tamil Heritage
A key highlight of the Prime Minister’s address, as noted by the Vice-President, was the celebration of Tamil language and culture. Quoting the Prime Minister, Shri Radhakrishnan recalled the powerful message: “Tamil is India’s gift to the world. Tamil literature is eternal, and Tamil culture is global.”
These remarks resonated strongly with the Tamil diaspora in Malaysia, where Tamil language and traditions continue to thrive as an integral part of the country’s multicultural identity.
Thiruvalluvar Centre Announcement Welcomed
The Vice-President warmly welcomed the announcement regarding the establishment of a Thiruvalluvar Centre, calling it a significant step toward promoting India’s philosophical and literary heritage on a global platform.
Saint Thiruvalluvar, the revered Tamil poet-philosopher, is best known for the “Thirukkural,” a timeless work on ethics, governance, and human values. The proposed centre is expected to serve as a hub for cultural exchange, academic research, and dialogue rooted in India’s ancient wisdom.
Strengthening Cultural Diplomacy
According to Shri Radhakrishnan, initiatives such as the Thiruvalluvar Centre go beyond symbolism. They represent India’s broader commitment to cultural diplomacy, ensuring that its civilisational legacy reaches audiences across the world.
He added that cultural institutions abroad play a vital role in fostering mutual understanding and respect among nations, complementing traditional diplomatic engagements.
India-Malaysia Relations on an Upward Trajectory
The Vice-President observed that Prime Minister Modi’s Kuala Lumpur visit and diaspora interaction come at a time when India-Malaysia relations are witnessing renewed momentum across sectors such as trade, education, technology, and tourism.
He stressed that strong cultural foundations provide stability and depth to bilateral partnerships, making them resilient in a rapidly changing global landscape.
