Vice-President Launches Book on Srila Prabhupada’s Leadership

RR Team, January 7, 2026January 7, 2026
The Vice-President of India, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, on Wednesday launched the book “Sing, Dance and Lead: Leadership Lessons from the Life of Srila Prabhupada” at a formal event held at the Vice-President’s Enclave in New Delhi. The book, authored by noted writer and historian Hindol Sengupta, explores leadership principles rooted in values, service, and inner discipline through the life of A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
Addressing a distinguished gathering of scholars, spiritual leaders and public figures, the Vice-President emphasised that India’s civilisational heritage offers timeless lessons on ethical and transformational leadership that remain deeply relevant in the modern world.

Leadership Rooted in Values and Service

Describing India as a civilisational leader, Shri Radhakrishnan said the country’s traditions have consistently upheld leadership grounded in moral clarity, self-restraint and service to society. He noted that the life and work of Srila Prabhupada firmly belong to this lineage.

According to the Vice-President, true leadership is not measured by authority or power, but by purpose, humility and the ability to inspire others. Srila Prabhupada’s life, he said, stands as a powerful example of leadership driven by conviction rather than command.

Global Impact Beyond Personal Recognition

Highlighting the enduring influence of Srila Prabhupada’s work, the Vice-President observed that while many across the world may not know his name, millions continue to be touched by the institutions and values he established.

He noted that Swami Prabhupada’s leadership was remarkable for its long-term vision, as the institutions he founded were designed to serve humanity for generations, transcending cultural and geographical boundaries.

A Journey of Faith, Discipline and Joy

Recalling Srila Prabhupada’s extraordinary journey across continents at an advanced age, Shri Radhakrishnan said he carried not merely a religious philosophy, but a complete way of life rooted in discipline, devotion and joy.

Referring to the founding of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in 1966, the Vice-President described its global expansion as a testament to leadership based on clarity of vision and a spirit of service rather than hierarchical authority.

Joyful and Participative Leadership

Explaining the central idea of the book, the Vice-President said Sing, Dance and Lead conveys the powerful message that leadership need not be rigid or austere, but can be joyful, participative and deeply human.

He observed that Srila Prabhupada led by inspiration, encouraging collective participation while remaining personally rooted in simplicity and devotion.

Relevance for Public Life and Youth

Drawing from the teachings of Tamil saint-poet Thiruvalluvar, Shri Radhakrishnan underlined that leadership begins with clarity of thought and elevated inner vision, which must then translate into collective action for the greater good.

He noted that such leadership ideals are especially relevant in public life, where democratic institutions depend on trust, ethical restraint and a genuine spirit of service.

Expressing hope that the book would resonate with young readers, the Vice-President said it encourages reflection on leadership as a means of uplifting others rather than pursuing material success alone.

Distinguished Attendance

The event was attended by Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, along with senior spiritual leaders associated with ISKCON and The Akshaya Patra Foundation, including Madhu Pandit Das and Chanchalapati Das.

Senior officials, scholars and invited guests were also present at the launch, reflecting the broad interest in ethical and values-based leadership.
