Vice-President Warns of Electoral Interference and Calls for National Vigilance

RR Team, February 22, 2025February 23, 2025

The Vice-President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, voiced serious concerns about illegal migration and its implications for the nation while addressing the 65th Convocation of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. He emphasized that millions of undocumented individuals are residing in the country, not only engaging in livelihood activities but also exerting influence on electoral processes, which could have significant consequences for the democratic system.

Shri Dhankhar further warned about religious conversions carried out through inducements and enticements, suggesting that such practices could alter the demographic structure of the nation. While upholding the right of individuals to choose their faith, he cautioned against conversions driven by external incentives or coercive tactics, arguing that such actions could disrupt the country’s social harmony. He drew historical parallels to illustrate how demographic shifts have, in some cases, led to the erasure of native cultures and identities in various regions around the world.

Highlighting concerns over attempts to manipulate electoral processes, Shri Dhankhar underscored the need for a thorough and deep-rooted investigation into these matters. He expressed dismay over the alleged efforts to undermine national institutions, including the Election Commission and the Judiciary, stating that such activities stem from a lack of national interest. He urged relevant authorities to conduct detailed investigations to expose individuals involved in any attempts to destabilize democratic processes.

The Vice-President also stressed that fundamental rights must be earned through the diligent performance of fundamental and civic duties. He noted that while the Constitution grants these rights, they come with an inherent responsibility to uphold the nation’s values and institutions. Addressing the issue of public order, he lamented incidents where protests escalate into violence, calling for a change in public mindset. He encouraged citizens to hold their elected representatives accountable, emphasizing the role of social media in fostering transparency and civic engagement.

Shri Dhankhar also advocated for social transformation through unity and harmony, urging citizens to embrace family values, respect elders, and promote a culture of mutual respect. He emphasized that India’s civilizational ethos is rooted in spirituality, ethics, and a deep sense of community, which has made the country a global role model for centuries. He called on the younger generation to nurture patriotism and contribute to nation-building.

Expressing his deep concern over climate change, the Vice-President reiterated the importance of environmental conservation. He endorsed the Prime Minister’s initiative, ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,’ as a crucial step toward sustainability, urging citizens to actively participate in tree-planting efforts. Additionally, he underscored the importance of self-reliance and the need to support indigenous industries through the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative.

The event was graced by the presence of Maharashtra Governor and Chancellor of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, along with other esteemed dignitaries, including Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Bhagwat Karad and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Vijay Fulari. The convocation served as a platform to discuss pressing national issues and reaffirm the values that define India’s democratic and cultural identity.
