Launched in September 2021 in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Vidyanjali aims to strengthen government schools through structured community and private sector participation. The digital platform links volunteers, alumni, civil society organisations, institutions and CSR partners with schools based on identified requirements.
The programme enables citizens to contribute services, activities and assets directly to schools, complementing the Centre’s flagship Samagra Shiksha scheme.
Services and Asset Contributions
According to the Minister, the platform has facilitated more than 56,734 service activities and 35,695 asset contributions since its launch. These contributions range from subject mentoring and career counselling to workshops in emerging areas such as Artificial Intelligence and coding.
Volunteers have also supported sports, cultural programmes and assistance for Children with Special Needs. Asset contributions include teaching-learning materials, ICT facilities, laboratory equipment, sanitation infrastructure and renewable energy solutions for schools.
Officials said these interventions have significantly improved learning environments and strengthened school resources across states.
Digital Monitoring and Transparency
Vidyanjali operates through a structured digital framework that ensures transparency and accountability. All contributions undergo an approval process, and schools validate completed activities through a monitoring system.
States track progress via dashboards, enabling regular review and evaluation. The digital mechanism ensures that volunteer support aligns with school requirements and that outcomes are documented systematically.
Boost to Holistic Development
The Minister emphasised that Vidyanjali supports students’ holistic development by supplementing classroom learning with mentorship, exposure to new technologies and improved infrastructure. The initiative embodies the spirit of “Jan Bhagidari” in education, encouraging citizens to actively participate in nation-building.
With over 2 crore students benefiting so far, the programme has emerged as a key bridge between communities and government schools. It reinforces the goals of NEP 2020 by fostering collaboration, skill development and inclusive growth.
As Parliament was informed, the government remains committed to expanding the reach of Vidyanjali and encouraging wider participation from individuals and organisations to further strengthen public education in India.
