Visakhapatnam Gears Up for Grand Yoga Day 2025
Visakhapatnam is all set to host the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2025, celebrating a decade of India’s global wellness movement. Senior officials from the Ministry of Ayush and the Government of Andhra Pradesh recently conducted a detailed review to ensure smooth execution of this prestigious event.
High-Level Review and Field Inspection
The inspection, held at prominent locations like RK Beach, Rishikonda Beach, Andhra University, and GITAM University, was led by Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, and Shri K. Vijayanand, Special Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh.
Joining them were top officials including Ms. Monalisa Dash (Joint Secretary, Ayush), District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad, and heads of departments such as Health, Ayush, Urban Planning, and VMRDA.
The team reviewed infrastructure, public mobilization strategies, and coordination among departments. The emphasis was on efficient execution, safety protocols, and inclusive participation.
Key Point: The review echoed PM Modi’s vision of taking yoga to every household, especially to those at the last mile.
“Yogandhra” – Andhra Pradesh’s Flagship Yoga Initiative
A standout feature of this year’s celebration is the Yogandhra initiative, designed to integrate yoga into daily life for over two crore people in the state. This community-led movement includes:
-
Mass yoga awareness drives
-
Camps in schools and universities
-
Certification of 20 lakh yoga practitioners
-
Celebrations at 1 lakh locations across Andhra Pradesh
-
Participation of over 5 lakh people in Visakhapatnam alone
Yogandhra perfectly complements the national theme of “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” fostering sustainable health practices and social unity.
Inter-Departmental Synergy
Officials appreciated the inter-agency collaboration that is driving the preparations. Different departments are working in unison—from logistics and crowd control to sanitation and cultural programming.
This coordination reflects the essence of yoga—not just as a physical discipline but as a unifying force across communities and institutions.
Quote: “Yoga is not just exercise. It is a symbol of India’s soft power, cultural heritage, and global leadership in wellness,” remarked a senior official.
A Global Message from the Coast
Visakhapatnam, with its stunning coastal landscape, is ready to send a powerful global message. The city will serve as a visual metaphor for yoga’s calming, unifying influence—symbolizing balance between tradition and modernity.
Looking Ahead to June 21
As June 21 nears, excitement builds across the state. With nationwide momentum and Andhra Pradesh’s grassroots energy, IDY 2025 promises to be a milestone in India’s wellness diplomacy.
Through inclusive planning, mass participation, and inspired leadership, Visakhapatnam is all set to shine as a global yoga capital.
