VP Radhakrishnan to Visit Gujarat for Patel Tribute

RR Team, December 6, 2025December 6, 2025
Vice-President of India Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan is set to make his maiden visit to Gujarat on 6 December 2025 after assuming office earlier this year. His visit marks a significant moment in the national commemoration of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 150th birth anniversary, culminating in a grand conclusion ceremony at the Statue of Unity in Ekta Nagar. As the Chief Guest, the Vice-President will pay tribute to India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and the architect of national integration, whose contributions continue to shape the nation’s democratic and administrative framework.

A Symbolic First Visit After Assuming Office

The Vice-President’s choice of Gujarat for his first official state visit holds deep symbolism. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, born in Nadiad, Gujarat, is widely regarded as one of the foremost architects of modern India. His leadership in unifying more than 560 princely states after independence laid the foundation for a cohesive republic. By attending the concluding ceremony at the world’s tallest statue dedicated to the Iron Man of India, the Vice-President aims to honour these monumental contributions.

According to the official announcement by the Press Information Bureau, the Vice-President will participate in cultural, commemorative and civic events organised to mark this historic milestone. The ceremony at Ekta Nagar is expected to draw national leaders, historians, students and representatives from various states, highlighting Patel’s enduring influence on India’s socio-political landscape.

Honouring Patel’s Legacy at the Statue of Unity

Located on the banks of the Narmada river, the Statue of Unity has emerged as a global monument of leadership and unity. Since its inauguration, it has served as a centre for educational tours, national celebrations and cultural exhibitions. The closing ceremony of the 150th birth anniversary events will feature tributes, thematic exhibitions and addresses reflecting on Patel’s ideals of governance, administration and national cohesion.

The Vice-President’s presence is expected to highlight the national significance of the event. His participation also reinforces the government’s commitment to celebrating national icons whose contributions shaped India’s constitutional and democratic values. The ceremony is likely to be broadcast on official channels for citizens across the country.

Public Expectations Ahead of the Visit

Local residents, students and visitors at Ekta Nagar are preparing for the ceremony with high expectations. Community groups and cultural organisations have lined up performances reflecting Gujarat’s heritage and Patel’s pivotal role in the freedom movement. The management at the Statue of Unity has upgraded visitor facilities and security arrangements in anticipation of increased footfall on 6 December.

In previous months, various institutions across India conducted seminars, documentary screenings, essay competitions and exhibitions as part of the 150th birth anniversary year. The December 6 event will mark the official culmination of these efforts. Citizens can access updates on the cultural and administrative arrangements on the Gujarat government’s official portal Gujarat India.

National Relevance of the Anniversary

Sardar Patel’s legacy resonates beyond regional and political boundaries. Often referred to as the “Iron Man of India,” Patel played a defining role in shaping India’s post-independence administrative structure and setting the early tone for federal governance. The anniversary celebrations throughout the year aimed to highlight both his statesmanship and his vision for a united nation built on discipline, trust and national service.

The Vice-President’s participation underscores the government’s emphasis on honouring national heroes and fostering greater public understanding of India’s foundational leadership. His involvement will also shine a light on the continuous efforts to preserve and promote sites of national importance, such as the Statue of Unity and the adjoining museum complex.

Looking Ahead

The Vice-President’s maiden visit is expected to energise cultural and historical preservation initiatives in the state. Officials anticipate that the ceremony will generate further interest in Patel’s life and deepen public engagement with India’s freedom movement. As Gujarat readies itself for the dignitary’s arrival, the visit stands as a reminder of the enduring legacy of a leader whose contributions remain central to India’s identity.

For citizens, the event offers an opportunity to revisit Patel’s unwavering commitment to national service. As the ceremonies conclude, they serve as an invitation to reflect on the values of unity, integrity and good governance that continue to guide the country.
