WAVES Bazaar 2025 Showcases India’s Creative Spirit with Top Selects Lineup Across 9 Languages

In a significant stride for India’s creative and cultural presence on the global stage, the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has unveiled the highly anticipated ‘Top Selects’ lineup for the first-ever WAVES Bazaar, a key initiative under the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES). This global marketplace, taking place in Mumbai from May 1 to 4, 2025, will bring together filmmakers, producers, distributors, and storytellers from around the world to celebrate and elevate India’s immense creative potential.

With India already holding a dominant position in the Media & Entertainment sector, WAVES Bazaar promises to further solidify the country’s stature as a global hub for content creation, investment, and innovation. The summit not only aims to foster collaboration across geographies and genres but also highlights the diverse narratives and linguistic richness that define India’s media landscape. This year’s “Top Selects” section of the WAVES Bazaar will feature 15 standout projects chosen from a pool of over 100 films submitted from eight countries, including India, the United States, Germany, and Sri Lanka.

Among the selected titles are nine compelling fiction features, two documentaries, two short films, and two web series—each a testament to the vibrant talent emerging from across the country. These works span nine languages and reflect stories rooted in regional experiences, bold experimentation, and cultural authenticity. From Tamil, Hindi, and Magahi to English, Odia, and Malayalam, the selected projects paint a panoramic picture of India’s storytelling spirit.

Each project will be presented during an open pitching session at the Jio World Centre on May 2, where filmmakers will have the opportunity to connect with international producers, distributors, festival curators, and potential investors. This platform not only fosters exposure and growth for new voices but also reflects a deeper commitment to inclusivity, innovation, and cultural preservation.

The Viewing Room, a dedicated space at the summit, will showcase recently completed films and projects in post-production, giving them a stage to find global sales partners, festival entries, and finishing funds. With a meticulously curated digital interface, the Viewing Room allows industry professionals to explore projects, access filmmaker details, and initiate meaningful collaborations.

This year’s WAVES Bazaar also includes a diverse and enriching lineup of restored classics from the National Film Archive of India, as well as student works from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) and Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI). This thoughtful inclusion offers a nod to India’s cinematic legacy while nurturing its future voices.

As India opens its doors to the global entertainment community through WAVES, it does so with warmth, creativity, and an eagerness to share its stories with the world. The event stands not just as a celebration of cinema, but as a heartfelt invitation to explore the soul of a nation that speaks through its art—united in diversity and bound by imagination.
