West Indies Extend Delhi Test to Day 5; India 58 Runs Away

RR Team, October 13, 2025October 13, 2025
The fourth day of the Delhi Test between India and West Indies ended with the match stretched to Day 5, as India closed at 63/1 in pursuit of 121 runs for a 2-0 series sweep. West Indies’ resilience, led by centuries from John Campbell and Shai Hope, made India toil for every run.

West Indies’ Batting Resurgence

John Campbell and Shai Hope anchored the West Indies innings, both reaching centuries to challenge India’s bowlers. Despite early breakthroughs from Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav, West Indies’ lower order, led by Justin Greaves, added crucial runs, including a 79-run final-wicket stand with Jayden Seales.

Kuldeep Yadav followed his first-innings five-wicket haul with three wickets in the second innings, while Jasprit Bumrah also claimed three to bowl out West Indies for 390 in their second innings. The persistent batting from Campbell and Hope ensured that India’s chase was far from straightforward.

India’s Bowling Efforts

India started Day 4 hoping for quick breakthroughs. Bumrah and Jadeja found some movement, but the overnight batters were patient, surviving tight LBW appeals and short spells of reverse swing. Campbell, in particular, spent a long time in the 90s before reaching his maiden Test century with a massive six over mid-wicket.

Roston Chase and Shai Hope then carried the innings to lunch at 252/3. Later, Hope reached his first Test century in 58 innings before falling to Mohammed Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav trapped Tevin Imlach LBW. Despite India’s efforts, the final-wicket partnership frustrated the bowlers, consuming 22 overs for 79 runs.

India’s Chase

India, chasing a modest 121, lost Yashasvi Jaiswal early in the evening session while attempting a big shot. KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan steadied the innings, ensuring India reached stumps at 63/1, still requiring 58 runs to seal victory. The calm approach of the remaining batsmen sets the stage for an exciting final day.

Key Scores

India: 518/5 decl. (Yashasvi Jaiswal 175, Shubman Gill 129*, Sai Sudharsan 87; Jomel Warrican 3-98) & 63/1
West Indies: 248 & 390 (f/o) (John Campbell 113, Shai Hope 103, Justin Greaves 50; Jasprit Bumrah 3-44, Kuldeep Yadav 3-104)
Target for India: 121 runs, 58 remaining at stumps.
