Young NCC Cadets Scale Mount Everest, Showcasing Spirit and Strength of India’s Youth

RR Team, May 18, 2025May 18, 2025

In an inspiring achievement that reflects the courage, determination, and spirit of India’s youth, a team from the National Cadet Corps (NCC) successfully scaled the mighty Mount Everest on May 18, 2025. What makes this feat truly special is that the expedition team included the youngest group of climbers to take on the challenge, with an average age of just 19 years.

The expedition team, made up of 10 cadets—five boys and five girls—alongside a dedicated support crew of officers, instructors, and non-commissioned officers, embarked on this demanding journey after months of intense preparation. The cadets, chosen from different parts of the country, were first-time climbers when they began their training. From their initial selection to a rigorous pre-Everest climb at Mt Abi Gamin, and later specialized winter and technical training at the Army Mountaineering Institute at Siachen Base Camp, the journey to Everest was both physically demanding and emotionally transformative.

Braving extreme weather, treacherous terrain, and the mental strain that comes with high-altitude climbing, these young cadets carried not only their gear but also the hopes and pride of a nation to the top of the world. Their discipline and fitness during the ascent did not go unnoticed. Even seasoned Sherpas of Nepal lauded the team’s resilience, high morale, and unwavering determination.

On the morning of May 18, the team stood atop the world’s highest peak at 8,848 meters, proudly unfurling the Indian Tricolour alongside the NCC flag. It was not just a moment of personal triumph for each climber but a collective victory symbolizing the strength, unity, and potential of India’s youth.

The expedition was flagged off in New Delhi by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on April 3, 2025. This marks the third successful Everest mission by the NCC, following previous accomplishments in 2013 and 2016.

This remarkable ascent serves as a reminder of what young minds can achieve with the right guidance, discipline, and support. The entire nation salutes the courage of these cadets, whose feat will inspire generations to dream bigger and aim higher.
