75 Years of National Sample Survey Celebrated
Celebrating Statistical Legacy
This year’s theme, “75 Years of National Sample Survey”, marks the immense contribution of the National Sample Survey (NSS) in providing timely and reliable data for evidence-based policy decisions. Since 1950, NSS has played a crucial role in shaping India’s social and economic development.
Instituted in 2007, Statistics Day raises awareness about the importance of statistics among the public, especially youth, to enhance socio-economic planning and policy formulation.
Key Highlights of the Event
Rao Inderjit Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) of MoSPI, will inaugurate the event as the Chief Guest. Notable dignitaries such as Prof. Rajeeva Laxman Karandikar and Dr. Saurabh Garg will address the gathering.
- Launch of a Commemorative Coin and Customized My Stamp.
- Release of major publications including:
- Sustainable Development Goals – National Indicator Framework Progress Report 2025
- Nutritional Intake in India 2022-23 & 2023-24
- Launch of the GoIStat Mobile App, designed to offer simplified access to government statistics.
- Presentation of the prestigious Prof. C.R. Rao National Award in Statistics.
- Felicitation of winners from the Data Visualization Hackathon.
Expert Panel and Film Screening
The event will also include a technical session featuring a short film on the 75-year journey of NSS, followed by a panel discussion on “Impact of Frontier Technologies on Official Statistics.”
The panel will be moderated by Dr. Shamika Ravi and will include:
