Historical Significance of Vande Mataram
Written by Bankimchandra Chatterji in 1875 on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Navami, Vande Mataram first appeared in the literary journal Bangadarshan as part of the novel Anandamath. The song became a powerful symbol of India’s awakening, invoking the Motherland as a source of strength, prosperity, and divinity. On 24th January 1950, President Dr. Rajendra Prasad accorded it equal honor with the National Anthem Jana Gana Mana.
