UIDAI data shows that the Aadhaar App has already enabled one million users to update their registered mobile numbers digitally. Additionally, over 357,000 residents have used the app to lock or unlock their biometrics, enhancing control over personal data security.
Nearly 800,000 residents have downloaded their e-Aadhaar copies through the new application, reflecting the growing reliance on digital formats over physical documents.
Privacy-First and Secure Features
The Aadhaar App is built on the principles of data minimisation, consent control and selective sharing. Users can choose what information to share and when, strengthening privacy safeguards.
Advanced features include face verification for proof of presence, one-click biometric lock and unlock, viewing authentication history, and a QR-based contact card for seamless identity sharing. These features are designed to simplify everyday interactions while maintaining high security standards.
By integrating such tools, UIDAI aims to place digital identity management directly in the hands of residents, reducing dependence on intermediaries.
Everyday Use Cases Expanding
The Aadhaar App supports multiple real-world applications. It enables hotel check-ins through Offline Verification Seeking Entity (OVSE) QR code scanning, facilitates age verification, and assists in hospital admissions for visitors and attendants.
The app can also support event entry validation, gig worker verification and service partner authentication. UIDAI is simultaneously building a broader offline verification ecosystem by registering entities to leverage Aadhaar App features.
One notable innovation is the ability to manage up to five Aadhaar profiles on a single device, promoting the concept of “One Family – One App.” This feature simplifies digital identity access for households.
Enhancing Digital Infrastructure
Beyond convenience, the rapid adoption reflects UIDAI’s broader push to strengthen India’s digital infrastructure. Regular app updates, simplified interface design and enhanced security mechanisms have contributed to its widespread acceptance across different age groups and regions.
Residents can now update their address and registered mobile number directly through the app, with additional services expected to be rolled out in phases. The move aligns with the government’s broader digital empowerment vision.
