In an effort to streamline the registration process for the Char Dham and Hemkund Sahib Yatra, the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) has introduced Aadhaar-based authentication and eKYC. This initiative aims to enhance security, reduce registration time, and improve crowd management for one of India’s most revered pilgrimages.
Since the registration opened on March 20, over 7.5 lakh pilgrims have already used Aadhaar-based online registration. This system allows authorities to monitor pilgrim movements more efficiently, prepare for potential overcrowding at temples, and ensure better communication regarding weather conditions, particularly in high-altitude regions.
The integration of Aadhaar verification is expected to eliminate duplicate registrations, making the process smoother and more accessible for all pilgrims. The online registration can be completed through the official portal (https://registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in) or via the “Tourist Care Uttarakhand” mobile app. Offline registration at designated centers remains available for those unable to register digitally.
Beyond simplifying registration, Aadhaar-based tracking is also expected to improve the planning and distribution of essential services such as accommodation, transport, food, and medical aid. By providing an accurate count of registered pilgrims, this system can help prevent shortages and reduce wastage of resources. Additionally, in case of emergencies, it enhances coordination between pilgrims and authorities, ensuring a safer and more organized pilgrimage experience.
