Aarti Singh Rao Adopts Son, Extends Rao Family Legacy

RR Team, August 29, 2025August 29, 2025
In a defining moment for Haryana politics, Health Minister Aarti Singh Rao has formally adopted a son, introducing him as the next-generation face of the influential Rao family. The child, named Rao Jayveer Singh, is now set to represent the family’s third-generation legacy in the state’s political landscape.
The Rao family has been a towering presence in Haryana politics for decades. Starting with Rao Birender Singh, the second Chief Minister of Haryana in 1967, the family’s political clout was later carried forward by his son Rao Inderjit Singh, a five-time Member of Parliament and former Union Minister. With his daughter Aarti already playing an active role in politics, the introduction of Rao Jayveer Singh ensures continuity of the family’s political chain.

Why the Adoption Matters

The announcement comes at a time when questions were being raised about the family’s political succession. Rao Inderjit Singh has no sons, and his daughters followed different paths — Aarti Singh Rao chose politics, while her sister Bharti Singh Rao pursued business. By adopting Rao Jayveer Singh, Aarti has formally introduced the heir to the Rao dynasty, ending all speculation about the future of their legacy.

This move is also significant given Haryana’s deeply entrenched political dynasties, where family legacy often shapes electoral outcomes. In 2022, Inderjit Singh had already declared Aarti as his political heir. Now, with Jayveer’s entry, the third generation has been cemented.

Ahirwal’s Political Importance

The Ahirwal region, comprising Rewari, Mahendragarh, Narnaul, and extending into Gurugram, Bhiwani, Jhajjar, and Charkhi Dadri, has historically been a powerhouse in Haryana politics. The Rao family’s popularity ensured repeated electoral dominance here, making the region a semi-final for power in the state.

With Rao Inderjit Singh now in the twilight of his political career and Aarti Singh Rao holding a cabinet portfolio, the introduction of Rao Jayveer Singh signals that the family intends to hold its grip over Ahirwal for years to come.

Political Timeline of the Rao Family

  • 1967: Rao Birender Singh becomes Haryana’s second Chief Minister.
  • 1991–96: Rao Inderjit Singh serves as MLA and cabinet minister.
  • 1998: Elected MP from Mahendragarh.
  • 2004–2014: Re-elected to Parliament, serves in UPA government.
  • 2014: Joins BJP, elected MP from Gurugram, becomes Union Minister.
  • 2019: Wins fifth consecutive term in Parliament.
  • 2022: Aarti Singh Rao declared official political successor.
  • 2024: Appointed Health Minister in Haryana Cabinet.
  • 2025: Aarti adopts son Rao Jayveer Singh, marking third-generation heir.

Implications for Haryana Politics

Political analysts believe this move strengthens the Rao family’s position at a time when regional loyalties play a decisive role in state elections. The symbolic introduction of a third-generation leader is seen as a strategic step to preserve influence in upcoming political battles.

As Haryana gears up for future elections, Rao Jayveer Singh’s name may soon become a rallying point for supporters in Ahirwal. The Rao family’s strong network, combined with its history of governance, positions them as a formidable force in the state’s shifting political landscape.

For now, the adoption is more about legacy-building than immediate politics, but its long-term impact on Haryana’s power dynamics cannot be underestimated. The Rao dynasty’s story, spanning over five decades, has officially entered its third chapter.
