Akashvani and Ministry of Culture Launch ‘Har Kanthh Mein Bharat’ to Celebrate India’s Classical Music Heritage

RR Team, February 2, 2025February 2, 2025

On the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchami, the Pt. Ravishankar Music Studio at Broadcasting House, Akashvani, resonated with the soulful notes of Indian classical music as the Ministry of Culture and Akashvani came together to launch a special radio series, Har Kanthh Mein Bharat. Designed to celebrate the rich musical heritage of India, this initiative will bring classical melodies to listeners across the country, with daily broadcasts at 9:30 AM from 21 Akashvani stations until February 16, 2025.

The event commenced with a floral tribute to Goddess Saraswati, a symbolic gesture marking the deep cultural and spiritual significance of the occasion. Among those present were Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Shri Aruneesh Chawla; CEO, Prasar Bharati, Shri Gaurav Dwivedi; Director General, Akashvani, Dr. Pragya Paliwal Gaur; Joint Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Ms. Ameeta Prasad Sarbhai; and Director General, Doordarshan, Ms. Kanchan Prasad. In her welcome address, Dr. Pragya Paliwal Gaur spoke about the celestial significance of this year’s Basant Panchami, which marks a rare confluence of Saraswati and Lakshmi, and expressed hope that Har Kanthh Mein Bharat would successfully spread the timeless essence of Indian classical music to every corner of the nation.

The series was formally launched in a digital inauguration by Shri Aruneesh Chawla and Shri Gaurav Dwivedi, receiving a standing ovation from the audience. Shri Gaurav Dwivedi highlighted Akashvani’s historical role in preserving and promoting India’s diverse cultural traditions and expressed optimism that such creative partnerships would open new avenues for artistic expression.

In his keynote address, Shri Aruneesh Chawla emphasized the importance of safeguarding performing arts in an era increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence. He noted that involving the younger generation in such cultural initiatives would be key to ensuring their continuity. The Ministry of Culture, he added, is committed to expanding collaborative efforts like Har Kanthh Mein Bharat to further enrich India’s artistic landscape.

The event was further elevated by mesmerizing live performances that showcased the depth and beauty of Indian classical music. A moving Saraswati Vandana set the tone for the occasion, followed by a vocal rendition in Raag Basant that captivated the audience. The evening concluded with a stirring performance of Raag Des on the Sarod, leaving listeners spellbound.

With this initiative, Akashvani and the Ministry of Culture have taken another step towards bringing the timeless legacy of Indian classical music closer to people, ensuring that its melodies continue to inspire and unite generations to come.
