Amit Shah Celebrates Uttarayan with Prayers & Kite Festival

Ahmedabad, January 14, 2026: On the sacred occasion of Uttarayan, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah participated in traditional prayers and cultural festivities across Ahmedabad. The Home Minister offered prayers at the Shri Jagannath Temple, worshipped Gau Mata, visited Gurudwara Gobind Dham in Thaltej, and joined the city’s vibrant kite festival celebrations.

Prayers and Worship

Shri Amit Shah began the day by offering prayers at the Shri Jagannath Temple in Ahmedabad, invoking blessings for the nation. He also worshipped Gau Mata, emphasizing the importance of reverence and service to cows in Sanatan Dharma, which holds special significance in spiritual and cultural traditions.

Later, the Home Minister paid his respects at Gurudwara Gobind Dham, Thaltej, Ahmedabad, strengthening the message of communal harmony and unity on the auspicious occasion.

Participation in Kite Festival

Shri Shah took part in the public kite festival (Patangotsav) organized in his Lok Sabha constituency at Naranpura Ward and Nava Vadaj Ward. Flying kites alongside citizens, he expressed delight in witnessing the enthusiasm and joy with which the festival is celebrated across Gujarat.

On his X posts, the Home Minister shared, “Jai Jagannath! Like every year, I was fortunate to offer prayers at the Shri Jagannath Temple in Ahmedabad on the sacred occasion of Uttarayan. May the grace of Mahaprabhu always remain upon the people of the nation.” He also noted, “In Sanatan Dharma, service to and worship of Gau Mata hold special significance. Today, on the occasion of Uttarayan, I worshipped Gau Mata at the Shri Jagannath Temple.”

Shri Amit Shah further added, “The festival of Uttarayan is being celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm across the entire Gujarat. Today, I participated in the public kite festival organized at Arjun Green Flats in the Naranpura Ward of Ahmedabad and flew kites.”

Uttarayan: A Statewide Celebration

The festival of Uttarayan, marking the transition of the sun into Capricorn (Makara), is celebrated across Gujarat with immense zeal. Kite flying is a central feature, symbolizing joy, cultural unity, and festive spirit. Communities across Ahmedabad and other cities actively participate in kite festivals, fairs, and religious observances during the event.
