Bengaluru Rain Alert: IMD Predicts Heavy Showers All Week

RR Team, August 7, 2025August 7, 2025

Bengaluru is back in the grip of the southwest monsoon. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued fresh warnings for heavy rainfall across several parts of Karnataka, including the capital city.

Over the past few days, the city has seen steady showers and cooler temperatures. And the pattern isn’t changing soon.

Heavy Showers and Thundershowers Ahead

According to the latest IMD weather bulletin, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected throughout the week in Bengaluru. The warning also extends to other districts such as Bangalore Rural, Tumkur, Davangere, Chitradurga, and Koppal.

North Interior Karnataka is under a yellow alert today and tomorrow, with isolated rainfall accompanied by gusty winds predicted in Bagalkot, Bidar, Raichur, Kalaburagi, and Yadgir.

For areas like Uttara Kannada, Shivamogga, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and Belagavi, an orange alert has been sounded. These districts are bracing for extremely heavy rainfall events.

Why It’s Raining Heavily Again

The sudden shift is due to the return of the southwest monsoon. Rain clouds gathered over Karnataka starting Monday evening. Since then, Bengaluru has recorded several significant spells of rainfall.

The IMD noted that wind patterns from the Arabian Sea are aiding cloud formation over the Deccan Plateau. These are contributing to widespread rain in the region.

Bengaluru Weather Forecast for the Week

The week ahead looks wet and cloudy. The IMD forecasts that daytime temperatures will hover around 29°C, while nights will see a drop to around 20°C. Relative humidity will remain between 65% and 85%.

This combination will make conditions cool and damp across the city, ideal for those who enjoy monsoon vibes—but a cause for concern in areas prone to waterlogging.

Air Travel Disruptions at Bengaluru Airport

The effects of the rain are already visible. On Tuesday, flight operations at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) faced brief disruptions due to heavy showers.

An IndiGo flight from Delhi to Bengaluru was rerouted to Coimbatore because of poor visibility. The flight later returned and landed safely after a 90-minute delay.

Three outbound flights also experienced delays. By 5:30 p.m., KIA had recorded 54.5 mm of rainfall, according to the IMD.

Precautionary Measures for Residents

The Bengaluru civic administration has urged residents to stay alert and take precautions, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Local authorities have activated emergency teams and deployed pumps in areas that experience regular water accumulation.

Commuters are advised to plan their travel in advance. Motorists should avoid underpasses and stretches known for waterlogging during intense rainfall.

Monsoon Impact on Daily Life

The heavy showers have brought much-needed relief from summer heat. However, they also come with challenges. Power cuts, slow-moving traffic, and internet disruptions have already been reported in parts of the city.

School and college schedules are largely unaffected for now. But the administration may issue new guidelines if rain intensity increases during school hours in coming days.

Climate Patterns in Bengaluru and Beyond

This weather shift reflects larger monsoon trends in India. Experts believe that the monsoon revival in August is a crucial phase, as July rainfall was below average in several southern states.

With IMD forecasting continued wet conditions in Karnataka and other parts of South India, August may balance the rain deficit. However, the risk of flash floods and crop damage still looms large in rural districts.

Looking Ahead

Bengaluru is no stranger to intense monsoon spells. But the rise in urban population and inadequate drainage systems make every heavy rain event a logistical challenge.

For now, stay informed. Follow IMD updates. And take extra caution during commute hours and in flood-prone areas. The rain is here—and it’s not leaving anytime soon.
