Bihar CM Launches Gaurav Udyan Waste-to-Wonder Park

RR Team, August 7, 2025August 7, 2025

On August 7, 2025, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar laid the foundation stone of the much-anticipated Gaurav Udyan, also known as the Deshratna Dr Rajendra Prasad Bihar Gaurav Udyan. This ambitious waste-to-wonder theme park will rise in Patna near the memorial of India’s first President, Dr Rajendra Prasad.

A Tribute to Bihar’s Glorious Past

The park will be developed on a 10-acre stretch between the iconic Dr Rajendra Prasad memorial and the scenic JP Ganga Path. The ₹14.98 crore project, approved by the Urban Development and Housing Department of Bihar, aims to celebrate the state’s historic and cultural milestones.

While unveiling the plaque, the CM paid floral tributes to Dr Rajendra Prasad. He emphasized that the park should not only complement the memorial’s surroundings but also enrich the community’s cultural consciousness.

Waste-to-Wonder: Innovation with Sustainability

This theme park isn’t just about beauty and nostalgia—it’s about innovation. Constructed using recycled materials and waste products, Gaurav Udyan aligns with India’s sustainability mission. It reflects a growing trend of transforming urban spaces through eco-conscious design.

This park follows similar successful models like Delhi’s Waste-to-Wonder Park, where scrap was turned into replicas of global landmarks. Bihar’s version, however, will focus on its own heritage and heroes.

Showcasing Bihar’s Great Minds and Monuments

According to a communique from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the park will feature life-size installations and inspiring stories of Bihar’s luminaries. These include:

  • Aryabhata – ancient mathematician and astronomer
  • Chanakya – economist and royal advisor
  • Emperor Ashoka – Mauryan ruler known for peace and Buddhism
  • Jayaprakash Narayan – social reformer and freedom fighter
  • Dashrath Manjhi – the ‘Mountain Man’ of Bihar

The park will also display Bihar’s architectural legacy—Nalanda, Vikramshila, Buddhist stupas, Hindu temples, and Islamic mausoleums—all recreated with artistic flair and recycled components.

Visitor-Friendly and Community-Oriented

To make it more accessible and enjoyable for all, the park will include:

  • Food and beverage zones
  • A well-maintained playground
  • Interactive exhibits for children and tourists
  • A grand memorial complex at the existing Dr Rajendra Prasad site

The location is expected to attract families, tourists, and students, offering both education and recreation. The scenic views of the JP Ganga Path will add a natural charm to the site.

Leadership and Vision Behind the Project

The ceremony saw the presence of Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary, Urban Development Minister Jibesh Kumar, Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin, and Patna Mayor Sita Sahu. Top bureaucrats like Development Commissioner Pratyaya Amrit and Principal Secretary Deepak Kumar were also in attendance.

A video presentation showcasing the concept and progress plan was screened during the event. Officials assured the CM that the construction would follow a detailed blueprint, ensuring timely delivery and environmental responsibility.

A Boost to Tourism and Urban Identity

Gaurav Udyan is expected to be a landmark addition to Bihar’s urban landscape. As a green initiative fused with heritage storytelling, it could set an example for other states.

By leveraging waste-to-wonder concepts and showcasing local legends, the park will not only beautify the area but also deepen cultural identity among citizens—especially the youth.

Conclusion

In a time when cities are looking for sustainable growth and cultural revival, the Gaurav Udyan project shines bright. It honors Bihar’s illustrious past while embracing modern, eco-friendly practices. The foundation has been laid—both literally and metaphorically—for a project that promises pride, purpose, and progress.
