BJP Expels Spokesperson Krishna Kumar Janu

RR Team, August 9, 2025August 9, 2025

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expelled its spokesperson Krishna Kumar Janu for six years. The action follows his sharp criticism of the party’s leadership over the alleged disrespect shown to late former Governor Satya Pal Malik and the unceremonious exit of former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.

Official Reason for Expulsion

According to the expulsion order issued by Onkar Singh Lakhawat, chairperson of the BJP’s state disciplinary committee, Janu was removed for failing to justify his June remarks opposing the appointment of Harshini Kulhari as BJP’s Jhunjhunu district president. The order came after a show-cause notice issued on June 20.

However, political observers believe the move was also linked to Janu’s recent viral video criticising the party’s handling of Jat leaders and sidelining of senior figures.

Criticism of BJP’s Treatment of Leaders

In the viral video, Janu accused BJP’s leadership of showing “tiraskar” (disdain) towards Malik during his last rites. He pointed out that no state funeral was given, despite Malik’s tenure as a constitutional authority and former national vice president of the party.

Janu also questioned the abrupt departure of Jagdeep Dhankhar from the Vice President’s post, noting that there was no farewell address or formal send-off — a departure from political traditions.

Appeal to Jat Leaders

Janu’s remarks carried a strong message to BJP’s Jat leaders. He urged them to remember the community’s history of challenging injustice and inconsistencies within the system. Drawing on cultural references to Guru Nanak Dev, Jambhoji Maharaj, and Dayanand Saraswati, he called on Jats in the party to speak out against wrongs.

He warned them that what happened to Malik could happen to any of them if they remained silent.

Allegations of Sidelining Veterans

Beyond Malik and Dhankhar, Janu accused the BJP leadership of sidelining popular mass leaders. He listed veterans like L.K. Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Yashwant Sinha, Praveen Togadia, Sanjay Joshi, and Vasundhara Raje as examples. He also alleged that former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had been reduced to a “puppet” role.

Public and Political Reactions

While the BJP has not made a detailed public statement beyond the official order, the expulsion has triggered discussions within Rajasthan’s political circles. Some see it as a necessary step to maintain party discipline, while others view it as an attempt to silence dissent before key state and national elections.

Key Points

  • BJP expelled Krishna Kumar Janu for six years after critical remarks.
  • Official reason: Opposition to a district-level appointment.
  • Underlying cause: Comments on Satya Pal Malik’s last rites and Dhankhar’s exit.
  • Janu accused BJP of sidelining senior and popular leaders.
  • Called on Jat leaders to speak out against injustice.

Historical and Cultural Context

The controversy is particularly sensitive in Rajasthan, where Jat leaders have significant influence. By invoking historical figures and the Jat tradition of resistance, Janu positioned his criticism within a broader cultural narrative.

Implications for BJP in Rajasthan

Rajasthan has a politically active Jat community that has influenced electoral outcomes in several constituencies. Analysts suggest that alienating prominent Jat voices could impact the party’s performance in the region.

The timing, just months before major electoral contests, adds another layer of political complexity to the situation.

Conclusion

The expulsion of Krishna Kumar Janu reflects deeper tensions within the BJP over internal dissent and the treatment of veteran leaders. While the party frames it as a disciplinary measure, the strong public and community-focused rhetoric in Janu’s statements ensures the issue will remain in political discussions for weeks to come.
