CAQM Inspects 105 Units in Nuh to Enforce GRAP Norms

RR Team, January 3, 2026January 3, 2026
New Delhi/Nuh: The Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) carried out a large-scale enforcement inspection in Nuh district of Haryana to ensure strict adherence to environmental norms and statutory directions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).
The inspection drive was conducted on January 2, 2026, as part of CAQM’s intensified efforts to curb air pollution during the enforcement period of GRAP Stage-III across the National Capital Region. A total of 10 flying squad teams were deployed to conduct coordinated on-ground inspections across the district.

The operation reflects CAQM’s continued focus on strengthening compliance monitoring in industrial clusters and construction zones that are considered potential contributors to air pollution in the NCR.

Joint Enforcement with District Administration

The enforcement exercise was carried out in close coordination with the Nuh district administration. Deputy Commissioners, duty magistrates, officials of the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB), and police personnel were actively involved in facilitating the inspection process.

The district administration allocated specific inspection zones to each flying squad to ensure comprehensive coverage of both conforming and non-conforming industrial areas.

105 Units and Sites Inspected

During the operation, a total of 105 inspections were conducted across industrial units and construction and demolition (C&D) sites. Of these, five inspections covered active C&D sites, while the remaining 100 inspections focused on industrial establishments operating in the district.

The industries inspected included 86 stone crushers, five tyre pyrolysis plants, five ready-mix concrete plants, three hot mix plants, and one screening and washing plant.

GRAP Stage-III Norms in Force

The inspections were conducted while actions up to Stage-III of the extant GRAP were in force across NCR. As per the prescribed schedule under GRAP Stage-III, most industrial units and C&D sites were found non-operational, closed, dismantled, or shut down.

This compliance indicates the impact of stricter enforcement and awareness among industries regarding pollution control measures mandated during high pollution episodes.

Violations Detected in DG Set Usage

Despite overall compliance, violations of Direction No. 76 of CAQM, which pertains to the use of diesel generator (DG) sets, were detected in three industrial units. The Commission noted these violations and initiated appropriate action as per established procedures.

CAQM reiterated that unauthorized or non-compliant use of DG sets significantly contributes to air pollution and will not be tolerated during the GRAP enforcement period.

CAQM Emphasises Strong Enforcement

The Commission stated that strict and visible enforcement of GRAP measures is essential to curb non-compliance, reduce emissions at the source, and provide relief to residents living near industrial and construction zones.

Such enforcement actions also serve as a deterrent and reinforce the message that environmental regulations must be followed in letter and spirit.

Part of Broader NCR Monitoring Drive

The Nuh inspection drive forms part of CAQM’s broader enforcement initiative to intensify on-ground monitoring during the GRAP period. The Commission continues to work closely with NCR state governments, district authorities, and regulatory agencies.

CAQM has maintained that sustained inspections and coordinated enforcement are critical to improving air quality outcomes across NCR and adjoining areas.
