Celebrating Creativity: Winners Announced for Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 Art Competition

RR Team, March 31, 2025April 1, 2025

The Maha Kumbh Mela, a sacred confluence of faith, devotion, and tradition, remains one of the most profound spiritual gatherings in the world. This year, from January 13 to February 26, 2025, the festival once again drew millions, uniting people in a celebration of spirituality, knowledge, and cultural heritage. To capture the essence of this timeless tradition, the Ministry of Education, through the Department of School Education and Literacy, organized the All India Drawing & Painting Competition, providing young minds with an opportunity to depict their artistic interpretations of this grand event.

With participation from over 68,000 students from various Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas, and CBSE-affiliated schools, the competition witnessed an overwhelming response. Students from classes 6th to 8th showcased their creativity under three inspiring themes: Bhavya Maha Kumbh, Divya Maha Kumbh, and Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat. These themes encouraged children to delve into the festival’s spiritual and cultural significance while celebrating India’s diversity and unity. The results, declared on March 24, 2025, marked a moment of pride and joy for all participants and their institutions.

Entries were screened in two rigorous phases. Initially, nodal officers of KVS, NVS, and CBSE conducted primary screenings at their respective levels. The final selection was made by an expert committee under NCERT, ensuring that the most exceptional works were recognized. The winners received well-deserved recognition, with the first prize in each category awarded Rs. 15,000, second prize Rs. 10,000, and third prize Rs. 7,000. Additionally, ten talented students in both drawing and painting categories received consolation prizes, which included certificates and gift hampers.

The list of winners reflected the diverse participation from across the country, highlighting the enthusiasm and talent of young artists. Schools from Rajasthan, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, and many other states contributed to the competition, showcasing how Maha Kumbh Mela resonates with students across geographical and cultural backgrounds. Whether it was through intricate depictions of the sacred ghats, the divine energy of the gathering, or symbolic representations of unity, each artwork narrated a unique story of faith and tradition.

This competition was more than just an artistic endeavor; it was an initiative to instill cultural awareness and appreciation in young minds. Aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes holistic development and creative expression, the contest provided students with a meaningful platform to engage with India’s rich heritage. By fostering such initiatives, the education system continues to nurture well-rounded individuals who appreciate the cultural wealth of the nation.

As these young artists move forward, their participation in this event will remain a cherished milestone, inspiring them to explore art, culture, and tradition in new and profound ways. The Maha Kumbh Mela’s spirit, captured beautifully in their works, stands as a testament to the power of faith, art, and unity in diversity.
