In a spirited celebration of creativity, innovation, and knowledge, the CSIR-Indian Institute of Petroleum (CSIR-IIP), Dehradun, observed the Rashtriya Boudhik Sampada Mahotsav (RBSM) 2025 on May 29, 2025. Dr. Deepti Agrawal, In-charge of the Intellectual Property Management Group (IPMG) at CSIR-IIP, opened the program with warm remarks, emphasizing the growing importance of intellectual property rights in today’s knowledge-driven economy. Following her, Dr. Harender Singh Bisht, Director of CSIR-IIP, offered a heartfelt address that resonated with the young researchers and seasoned scientists present, urging them to continue pushing the boundaries of innovation.
The highlight of the day was an engaging talk by Dr. Kapil Arya from the CSIR-Innovation Protection Unit, New Delhi. In his session titled “Feel the Beat of Intellectual Property Rights,” Dr. Arya broke down the often-complex world of patents into accessible insights, sparking lively interaction with the attending scientists and research scholars. His session not only demystified the fundamentals of patenting but also encouraged participants to think of intellectual property as a tool for empowerment and growth.
Adding to the depth of the discussions, Dr. N. Vishwanadham, Chairman of the Patent and Publication Committee (PPC), shared his experiences on the crucial role played by patents in protecting innovation. He highlighted the diverse technologies developed at CSIR-IIP, showing how scientific research, when coupled with robust IP protection, can lead to impactful real-world applications.
In a bid to make learning fun and participatory, an online quiz competition on intellectual property was also conducted, drawing enthusiastic responses from students and researchers alike.
