Focus on Smart Agri-Food Systems
Welcoming the attendees, Dr. S.K. Sharma, President of the Indian Society of Agronomy, said the Congress aims to strengthen scientific collaboration and integrate agronomic advancements with national policy frameworks. He emphasized the need for innovations that help India respond to emerging climate, soil, and resource challenges.
India’s Record Food Production Highlighted
In his keynote address, Dr. M.L. Jat, Secretary (DARE) and Director General of ICAR, underscored India’s record food grain output of 357.73 million tonnes achieved in 2025. He also drew attention to the remarkable 95% reduction in stubble burning since 2020—an achievement driven by technological adoption and farmer training programs.
Dr. Jat said this year’s IAC theme—“Re-Envisioning Agronomy for Smart Agri-Food Systems and Environmental Stewardship”—reflects the need to integrate ecological responsibility with productivity. He stressed that resilience, efficiency, and sustainability must form the backbone of India’s agricultural transformation.
Agronomy for the Future: AI, IoT and Regenerative Farming
Highlighting the path forward, Dr. Jat emphasised the role of system agronomy, natural and regenerative farming, and precision tools. He said technologies like AI, satellite-based monitoring, and IoT-driven sensors would be crucial in bridging yield gaps and conserving resources.
He further encouraged domestic innovation to reduce dependence on imported agricultural inputs. Improved nutrient efficiency, indigenous bio-inputs, and optimised resource use, he said, are essential for national self-reliance.
Recommendations to Shape India’s Agri-Policy
During an interactive session, Dr. Jat assured participants that all recommendations from the Congress will be compiled and submitted to policymakers for integration into national agricultural planning. These inputs are expected to influence India’s sustainable farming strategy over the coming decade.
Media Outreach to Amplify Impact
Concluding the event, Organising Secretary Dr. S.S. Rathore delivered the vote of thanks. He urged media organisations to actively disseminate the Congress insights so that farmers, researchers, and policymakers benefit from its outcomes.
