The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has introduced the enhanced Certificate of Origin (eCoO) 2.0 System, an upgrade designed to simplify export certification processes and improve trade efficiency. The system brings user-friendly features, including multi-user access, Aadhaar-based e-signatures, and an integrated dashboard for exporters.
Key Features of the eCoO 2.0 System
- Multi-User Access: Exporters can now authorize multiple users under a single Importer Exporter Code (IEC).
- Aadhaar-Based e-Signing: In addition to digital signature tokens, Aadhaar-based e-signatures provide greater flexibility.
- Integrated Dashboard: Offers access to eCoO services, Free Trade Agreement (FTA) information, trade events, and more.
- In-Lieu Certificate of Origin: Exporters can request corrections to previously issued certificates through an online application process.
Mandatory Filing and Daily Operations
Since January 1, 2025, electronic filing of Non-Preferential Certificates of Origin (CoO) has been mandatory through the eCoO 2.0 platform, accessible via trade.gov.in under the “Get Certificate of Origin” section. The system processes over 7,000 eCoOs daily, connecting 125 issuing agencies, 650 issuing officers, and all Indian exporters on a unified platform.
Introduction of Back-to-Back Certificates of Origin
The DGFT has also implemented an online procedure for obtaining Back-to-Back Certificates of Origin (Non-Preferential). These certificates cater to goods not of Indian origin that are re-exported, trans-shipped, or involved in merchanting trade. Issued based on documentary evidence from the foreign country of origin, these certificates ensure transparency by detailing the origin and supporting documents.
