Divyangjan Empowerment Shines at 30th Divya Kala Mela

RR Team, February 22, 2026February 22, 2026

The 30th edition of Divya Kala Mela commenced at Rangers Ground in Dehradun, celebrating the creativity, talent, and entrepreneurial spirit of Divyangjan. Uttarakhand Governor Lt. General Gurmit Singh described the event as a powerful platform that highlights the decisive role of persons with disabilities in propelling India toward becoming the world’s third-largest economy.

Governor Gurmit Singh Highlights Technology and Global Opportunities

Speaking at the inauguration, the Governor underscored how artificial intelligence and technological innovations can create new opportunities for Divyangjan. “The creativity displayed at the Mela is not just art, but a living expression of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” he remarked. He encouraged participants to ensure their products reach global markets, providing international recognition to India’s divine talent.

Government Initiatives for Divyangjan

Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri B. L. Verma, highlighted the progress made under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 and various welfare schemes. He shared that ₹375 crore has been allocated through the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India to support the purchase and fitting of assistive devices, directly benefiting thousands of individuals nationwide.

Divya Kala Mela as a Catalyst for Social Transformation

MP Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah described the Mela as more than an exhibition, calling it a catalyst for social change and national recognition. She cited India’s achievements in the Paralympics as evidence that talent knows no boundaries. MLA Khajan Das added that the platform provides dignity and confidence to participants while sending a positive societal message.

Director of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Shri Pradeep A., emphasized that the Mela connects Divyang entrepreneurs with markets, financial support, and employment opportunities, including assistive device registrations and job fairs.

Economic and Employment Impact

The Mela has grown into a significant economic driver. Across 29 previous editions nationwide, 2,362 participants generated business worth over ₹23 crore. Government loans exceeding ₹20 crore have been sanctioned to support Divyang entrepreneurs, and employment fairs have seen around 3,131 candidates participate, with over 313 securing jobs. These initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to financial inclusion and economic empowerment.

Exhibition Highlights and Cultural Programs

The nine-day Mela, running from 21 February to 1 March 2026, features over 90 stalls showcasing handicrafts, handloom products, embroidery, home décor, garments, organic foods, jewellery, toys, and gift items. Around 100 Divyang artisans and entrepreneurs from 16 States and Union Territories are participating.

Visitors can enjoy vibrant cultural performances, sports activities, and registration for assistive devices. A special job fair is scheduled for 26 February, while the grand cultural program “Divya Kala Shakti” on 1 March will highlight the extraordinary talent of Divyang artists. Entry is free from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM daily.
