Dr Singh traced India’s journey as an ancient civilisation that withstood invasions, colonialism, and systemic exploitation, yet emerged stronger with renewed confidence. He emphasised that true democracy empowers every citizen, enabling even children from the most underprivileged households to aspire to become scientists, doctors, or civil servants.
Innovation, Startups, and Scientific Leadership
India’s ranking in the Global Innovation Index has improved from 81st in 2014 to 38th today. Over 2 lakh startups now generate 21 lakh jobs, with nearly half emerging from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities and a significant number led by women. Dr Singh highlighted India’s position among the top nations in scientific publications and patent filings, with resident Indians contributing over 60% of patents, showcasing global recognition of Indian scientific talent.
Space, Nuclear, and Ocean Missions
The Minister spoke on policy reforms opening private sector participation in space, leading to the rapid growth of India’s space economy. Indigenous capabilities in defence and advanced technologies have increased self-reliance and exports. He also outlined the Ocean Mission, which will unlock deep-sea resources and biodiversity to enhance future national value creation.
Policy Initiatives and Economic Opportunities
Dr Singh mentioned flagship programs such as the National Education Policy 2020, Atal Innovation Mission, PM Mudra Yojana, PM Vishwakarma Yojana, and PM SVANidhi as key enablers for entrepreneurship, supporting traditional artisans and street vendors. These measures are creating pathways beyond conventional employment, contributing to economic empowerment across India.
Youth and India at 100
Concluding his address, Dr Singh urged young Indians, including those studying abroad, to connect with India’s growth story. He emphasised that Viksit Bharat 2047 will be shaped by today’s youth, calling for the present generation to strengthen institutions, build capacity, and create an innovation-driven ecosystem for a globally respected India at 100 years of independence.
