Dr Mandaviya to Lead 62nd Fit India Sundays on Cycle

RR Team, February 21, 2026February 21, 2026
New Delhi: Union Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya will spearhead the 62nd edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle on February 22, 2026, at the iconic Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. The event, conducted in collaboration with the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), celebrates India’s successful award to host the Commonwealth Games 2030 and reinforces fitness and sustainable mobility as key pillars of the nation’s health and sports ecosystem.

Promoting Fitness and National Sports Ambitions

Launched in 2019 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, the Fit India Movement aims to create a healthier, more active Bharat. Dr Mandaviya highlighted that the event aligns with India’s long-term goal of emerging as a global sports powerhouse by 2047, including hosting the Olympic Games in 2036. He said, “Hosting the Commonwealth Games after 20 years is a moment of pride, and initiatives like Fit India Sundays reflect our commitment to a fit, active, and healthy nation.”

ESIC, celebrating 75 years of service and social security, has partnered for this edition, emphasizing the intersection of health, wellness, and fitness.

Star Participation and Multi-Discipline Engagement

Dr Mandaviya will be joined by Olympic bronze medallist Rupinder Pal Singh and Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Rohit Tokas. Rupinder, one of India’s finest hockey drag-flick specialists, boasts 223 international caps and 125 goals, with multiple medals across Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and FIH Hockey tournaments. Rohit Tokas, a celebrated boxer, mentors young athletes at the Tokas Boxing Club and won bronze at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

The event will feature yoga, rope-skipping, and Zumba zones to encourage participation from all age groups, including children. Past editions have seen enthusiastic participation from the Indian Army, CRPF, ITBP, various PSUs, and sports personalities such as Lovlina Borgohain, Rani Rampal, Deepika Kumari, and Paralympic medallists Nitesh Kumar, Rubina Francis, and Manisha Ramadass.

Building a Sports-Ready Bharat

The Government of Gujarat has unveiled a sports-focused budget to transform Ahmedabad into a world-class Sports City in preparation for the Commonwealth Games 2030. The initiative is envisioned as more than just a sporting event; it serves as a milestone for strengthening urban infrastructure, mobility systems, and institutional capacity, complementing India’s broader journey towards Viksit Bharat.

India’s engagement with International Sports Federations ensures that event programming, discipline inclusion, and athlete participation align with global standards. Such preparations reflect India’s sustained planning to deliver a comprehensive, sustainable, and inclusive Commonwealth Games in 2030 while keeping the 2036 Olympics ambition in focus.

Nationwide Cycling Jan Andolan

Since its inception in December 2024, Fit India Sundays on Cycle has promoted fitness, environmental consciousness, and sustainable mobility. The initiative has grown into a nationwide movement, with over 25 lakh participants across more than 2 lakh locations. This Sunday, simultaneous events will take place across all states and Union Territories, including SAI Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence, Khelo India Centres, and State Centres of Excellence.

The cycling drive is supported by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), Cycling Federation of India (CFI), Indian Rope Skipping Federation, Yogasana Bharat, Raahgiri Foundation, MY Bikes, and MY Bharat.
