President Droupadi Murmu addressed the SheShakti 2024 summit with a powerful message emphasizing the need for heightened public consciousness about women’s safety. She stated that the initiative is crucial for fostering a society where every woman feels secure at all times.
In her special video message, Murmu highlighted the importance of addressing persistent feelings of insecurity among women. She urged society to reflect on its shortcomings and consider how to advance women’s safety and empowerment.
“Despite progress in enacting stringent laws for women’s safety, feelings of insecurity persist,” Murmu noted. “We must confront social biases and outdated beliefs that still undermine women’s strength and capabilities. It’s essential for us all to introspect and ask ourselves: Where have we gone astray? What changes can we make to improve?”
Murmu also emphasized that women’s safety and dignity are vital for the nation’s success. “Our country’s true strength lies in empowering women,” she said. “Women in India have always shown resilience and bravery in overcoming obstacles. Although many reforms have been implemented, deep-seated social prejudices still hinder true equality.”
She elaborated on the revered status of women in Indian culture, describing how the nation has historically honored women as embodiments of power and respect, from goddesses like Kali and Durga to Lakshmi and Saraswati. “Women are the true embodiment of power in our country,” Murmu affirmed.
The SheShakti 2024 campaign aims to recognize and honor women who have achieved remarkable success against gender-based challenges. Murmu congratulated Network 18 for its efforts in spotlighting these trailblazing women and supporting public awareness on women’s issues.
The second season of SheShakti celebrates women leading transformative change in India. Held on September 16, 2024, in New Delhi, the summit focuses on “Breaking Barriers” and showcases women from diverse sectors—including politics, science, arts, business, sports, and entertainment—who are redefining success and driving progress. The event highlights their groundbreaking achievements and insights on empowerment and leadership.
