Election Commission Launches ECINET at IICDEM 2026

RR Team, January 22, 2026January 22, 2026

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday launched ECINET, a comprehensive one-stop digital platform for election-related information and services, at the India International Conference on Democracy and Election Management (IICDEM) 2026 in New Delhi. The launch marks a significant milestone in India’s efforts to strengthen electoral transparency, efficiency and citizen participation through technology.

The three-day international conference, being held from January 21 to 23 at Bharat Mandapam, brings together Election Management Bodies (EMBs) from across the world to exchange best practices on democracy and election administration.

Vision Behind ECINET

ECINET was envisaged by Chief Election Commissioner Shri Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi. The development of the platform was announced in May 2025 as part of ECI’s broader push towards digital transformation.

The platform has been developed strictly in accordance with the Constitution of India and key electoral laws, including the Representation of the People Acts of 1950 and 1951, ensuring legal robustness alongside technological innovation.

Multilingual, Secure and Law-Compliant

Speaking at the launch, Chief Election Commissioner Shri Gyanesh Kumar said ECINET is available in all 22 scheduled Indian languages as well as English, making it accessible to citizens across the country. He emphasised that the platform has been developed in strict compliance with electoral laws and data protection standards.

Inviting global collaboration, the CEC offered Election Management Bodies worldwide to partner with India in developing similar digital platforms tailored to their own legal frameworks and languages.

Enhancing Trust and Transparency

Election Commissioner Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu described ECINET as a powerful tool to enhance trust in election management bodies. He noted that the platform improves transparency, enables effective monitoring of election-related functions and supports faster decision-making and information dissemination.

Election Commissioner Dr. Vivek Joshi highlighted the importance of IICDEM as a platform for EMBs to learn from global experiences in adopting technology and digital innovations for election management.

Technology as a Strategic Enabler

Director General (IT), Dr. Seema Khanna, underscored cybersecurity as a core pillar of ECINET. She stated that technology is no longer merely a support function but a strategic enabler for credible and efficient elections.

According to her, ECINET enhances transparency, operational efficiency and public confidence, reinforcing the credibility of the electoral process.

World’s Largest Electoral Service Platform

ECINET integrates more than 40 existing apps and portals of the Election Commission of India into a single, seamless digital experience. It brings together a wide range of electoral services for citizens, candidates, political parties and election officials on one secure platform.

Key services include voter registration, electoral roll search, Track Your Application, Know Your Candidate, e-EPIC download, polling trends, grievance redressal, and direct connectivity with election officials, including booking calls with Booth Level Officers.

Successful Pilot and Massive Scale

The beta version of ECINET was successfully piloted during the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). During this phase, citizen feedback was actively sought to refine and finalise the platform.

Since its beta release, ECINET has processed over 10 crore registration forms, averaging nearly 2.7 lakh applications per day. More than 11 lakh Booth Level Officers are registered on the platform, and over 150 crore documents have been digitised during the SIR process.

Monitoring and Citizen-Centric Governance

Beyond service delivery, ECINET provides a robust mechanism for monitoring ground-level election functionaries, strengthening accountability and operational oversight. The platform reflects ECI’s commitment to citizen-centric governance through digital innovation.
