EMRS Principals’ Conclave Strengthens Tribal School Leadership

RR Team, December 17, 2025December 17, 2025
The National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS) successfully concluded its 2nd EMRS Principals’ Conclave on Effective Management of Schools on 16–17 December 2025 at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi. The two-day national gathering brought together Principals and Principals-in-Charge of Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs) from across India to deliberate on strengthening academic leadership, governance, and institutional administration.

The conclave was inaugurated by Shri Jual Oram, Hon’ble Minister for Tribal Affairs, with Shri Durga Das Uikey, Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, as the Guest of Honour, alongside senior officials from the Ministry and NESTS. The inaugural session highlighted the critical role of principals in improving academic standards, student welfare, and institutional governance.

Key Publications and Strategic Vision

The event featured the release of significant publications, including the Training Resource Material, 4th EMRS Sports Meet 2025 Report, 6th Udbhav 2025 Report, and the 2nd EMRS Principals’ Conclave Book, highlighting best practices and achievements across academics, sports, leadership, and governance.

The Commissioner of NESTS outlined a strategic vision aligned with NEP 2020, emphasizing the importance of effective management, academic leadership, and holistic development for tribal students.

Day 1 Highlights: Academic Reforms and Leadership

Day 1 sessions focused on academic reforms, leadership development, and institutional governance. Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj, Controller of Examinations, CBSE, detailed the “Two Examination System of CBSE,” while Shri Jitender Nagpal discussed mental health and well-being in residential schools.

Technical sessions addressed maintenance procedures and infrastructure sustainability. Leadership and school culture were emphasized in a session by Shri Manoj Kumar Srivastava, and Dr. Sanjiv Kaura presented strategies for uplifting underprivileged students. The day concluded with an interactive demonstration of the APAR online portal by Shri G. Arumugam, enabling principals to navigate administrative processes efficiently.

Day 2 Highlights: Administration, Welfare, and Co-Curricular Integration

The second day highlighted administrative efficiency, financial governance, student welfare, and co-curricular development. Key sessions included HR and probation management, NCC unit establishment, effective lesson planning, and quality enhancement under the TALASH framework.

Co-curricular enrichment sessions covered Scouts and Guides units, Centres of Excellence, and the Kaushalya Programme. Financial and administrative capacity-building guidance on NPS and GeM procedures was provided, along with health awareness, sickle cell disease, cyber security, and financial literacy sessions.

An open discussion allowed principals to share challenges, best practices, and actionable recommendations, fostering peer learning and collaborative problem-solving.

Strengthening Tribal Education through NESTS

The conclave successfully enhanced principals’ capacities in academic leadership, governance, student welfare, and financial management. It reinforced NESTS’ mission of “Tribal Transformation Through Education,” promoting NEP 2020–aligned reforms, institutional excellence, and holistic development for tribal students across EMRSs.
