EPFO Adds 19.14 Lakh Members in April 2025

RR Team, June 23, 2025June 22, 2025

Record Payroll Growth in April

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has recorded a remarkable net addition of 19.14 lakh members in April 2025. This marks a 31.31% increase from March 2025 and a 1.17% rise compared to April 2024, showcasing stronger job creation and awareness about social security benefits.

8.49 Lakh New Subscribers Join

April 2025 saw the enrolment of approximately 8.49 lakh new members, up by 12.49% from the previous month. This surge reflects improved hiring in the organized sector and effective outreach by EPFO across sectors and demographics.

Youth Employment on the Rise

The 18–25 age group continues to dominate EPFO enrolments. Around 4.89 lakh new subscribers in this bracket joined in April, comprising 57.67% of all new subscribers. Compared to March, youth enrolment grew by 10.05% while their net payroll addition rose by 13.6% to reach 7.58 lakh.

This trend highlights increased entry of first-time job seekers into formal employment.

Job Switches & Rejoining Boost Membership

Approximately 15.77 lakh members rejoined EPFO in April, indicating a 19.19% monthly increase and 8.56% annual growth. Most of these workers changed jobs and chose to transfer their EPF accounts instead of withdrawing funds—ensuring continued social security coverage.

Women Participation Shows Positive Shift

April saw the addition of 2.45 lakh new female subscribers, a month-on-month growth of 17.63%. The net female payroll addition was even more striking at 3.95 lakh—an impressive 35.24% jump compared to March 2025.

This indicates growing workplace inclusivity and rising female participation in formal employment.

Maharashtra Tops State-wise Additions

Among states and union territories, Maharashtra led with 21.12% of net additions in April. In total, the top five states contributed 60.10% of all additions—adding around 11.5 lakh members. Other key contributors included Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Telangana.

Industry Trends Show Strong Hiring

Payroll data reveals strong growth in industries such as:

  • Expert Services (43.69% of net additions)
  • Construction and Engineering
  • Computer and IT-related establishments
  • Trading and Commercial services
  • Educational Institutions

Of the expert services category, manpower suppliers alone added 4.23 lakh members, while security services added 93,330 members.

Conclusion: Momentum in Formal Employment Continues

EPFO’s April 2025 payroll data offers a promising view of India’s formal employment landscape. With increased youth and women participation, rising job switches, and regional contribution from leading states, the data reinforces EPFO’s key role in expanding social security coverage and reflecting real-time job trends in India.

These insights are provisional and subject to monthly revisions as establishments update their filings. For ongoing updates, visit EPFO’s official website.
