‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’ Inspires Nation with Massive Participation in Lucknow and Beyond

RR Team, March 23, 2025March 23, 2025

The ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’ initiative witnessed an inspiring turnout in Lucknow as Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, led over 500 cyclists in a spirited ride promoting fitness and environmental sustainability. Accompanied by Uttar Pradesh’s Minister of State for Sports & Youth Welfare, Girish Chandra Yadav, Principal Secretary (Sports) Manish Chauhan, and Secretary (Sports) Suhas Yathiraj, Dr. Mandaviya championed the message of fighting obesity and embracing a healthy lifestyle.

Cycling from Marine Drive (Samajik Parivartan Sthal) to Samta Mulak Chauraha and back, the Sports Minister emphasized how cycling is more than just an exercise—it is a powerful tool for personal growth and environmental well-being. Encouraging citizens to integrate cycling into their daily lives, he highlighted its role in enhancing health, building character, and contributing to a greener future. His message echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making fitness an integral part of everyday life.

The event, organized by the Sports Authority of India’s Netaji Subhas Regional Centre, saw enthusiastic participation from young boys and girls, along with 100 athletes from the National Centre of Excellence (NCOE). The atmosphere was electric as participants warmed up with Zumba performances before hitting the cycling track.

The nationwide movement extended beyond Lucknow, with simultaneous events held across multiple cities. In Delhi, Paralympians Nitesh Kumar and Manisha Ramdass, both medalists at the Paris Paralympics, joined the initiative while participating in the ongoing Khelo India Para Games 2025. They, along with Svayam founder Sminu Jindal, flagged off the event, which saw over 600 participants. In Mumbai, Asian Games medal-winning javelin thrower Kishore Jena led cyclists along the scenic Aksa Beach, adding to the event’s momentum.

Since its inception, ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’ has taken the country by storm, engaging over two lakh participants across 5,000 locations. The movement not only promotes fitness but also encourages eco-friendly practices to curb air pollution. Athletes, coaches, sports scientists, and fitness enthusiasts from different states and union territories have come together to make this initiative a success.

Previous editions have seen enthusiastic participation from Indian Army personnel, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and celebrated sports figures like Lovlina Borgohain, Sangram Singh, and Nitu Ghanghas. Even celebrities like Rahul Bose, Amit Sial, and Gul Panag have lent their support, further amplifying the reach of this fitness revolution.

Organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India, My Bikes, and MY Bharat, ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’ has transformed into a nationwide movement. With events held at SAI Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence, and Khelo India Centres, the initiative continues to encourage a healthier and more active India, proving that fitness is not just a goal—it is a way of life.
