Foundation to be Laid for Iconic Observatory Towers in Goa, Ushering in a New Era of Tourism and Infrastructure

RR Team, May 22, 2025May 22, 2025

In a significant step towards redefining Goa’s skyline and boosting tourism, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, will lay the foundation stone for the much-awaited Observatory Towers atop the New Zuari Bridge on Friday, 23rd May 2025. This moment marks not only a leap in infrastructure development but also a tribute to the aspirations of a vibrant and forward-looking India.

This ambitious project has been made possible through the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the unwavering commitment of Shri Nitin Gadkari, and the support of Goa’s Chief Minister Shri Pramod Sawant. Their collective efforts have paved the way for a structure that is set to become an iconic symbol of progress and innovation in one of India’s most beloved tourist destinations.

Designed to be reminiscent of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Observatory Towers will blend artistic elegance with cutting-edge engineering. At an estimated cost of ₹270.07 crore, the towers will be built over five years and are expected to become a major global attraction. Standing tall at 125 metres, each tower will be constructed on sturdy foundations between the bridge’s pylons, featuring sleek shafts and expansive upper levels. These will house a revolving restaurant, an art gallery, and stunning viewing galleries—all accessible via panoramic capsule lifts.

What makes this initiative particularly heartening is that it is being executed under the DBFOT (Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer) model, ensuring that the Government bears no financial burden. The project will be developed and operated entirely by the concessionaire for a period of 50 years, demonstrating a forward-thinking approach to public-private partnership.

To enhance the visitor experience, a wide walkway bridge will be built on both sides of the marine stretch, ensuring safe and scenic pedestrian access. Ample parking facilities at both ends of the bridge will further add to tourist convenience, making the site easily accessible for all.

More than just a landmark, the Observatory Towers are expected to be a catalyst for economic growth and job creation in Goa. The project promises to invigorate sectors like hospitality, transport, and retail, offering new opportunities for local entrepreneurs and skilled workers alike. It will not only uplift the local economy but also reinforce India’s global image as a nation that marries tradition with modernity through smart infrastructure.

As construction begins, the towers represent more than steel and concrete—they symbolize hope, ambition, and a future where India’s tourism infrastructure stands proudly on the world stage. With its unique design and thoughtful planning, the project will add a new chapter to Goa’s legacy, blending natural beauty with architectural brilliance.
