FPA Launches Accredited Level 3 Fire Safety Training Qualification to Empower Professionals

RR Team, May 6, 2025May 6, 2025

In a significant move to enhance fire safety education across the UK, the Fire Protection Association (FPA) has introduced a new accredited Level 3 Certificate in Fire Safety Training. Developed in response to growing industry demand, this qualification aims to elevate the standards of workplace safety and support organisations in strengthening the competency of their fire safety trainers.

Accredited by the Awarding Body for Building Education (ABBE), the course has been thoughtfully structured as a “train-the-trainer” programme. It includes a four-day in-person component, followed by eight weeks of extended learning and assessment. Upon successful completion, learners earn 13 Level 3 credits, marking a substantial step forward in professional development.

Participants will delve into seven essential units, covering both the theoretical and practical aspects of fire safety education. Topics range from inclusive teaching methods and assessment principles to hands-on training in the safe use of portable firefighting equipment. The full course entails 130 hours of guided learning, reflecting the FPA’s commitment to comprehensive, meaningful training.

At its core, the qualification empowers individuals to deliver effective fire safety and fire warden training that is tailored to the unique risks and needs of various workplaces. It’s designed not just to impart knowledge, but to ensure that future trainers can communicate critical safety principles with clarity and confidence.

This new offering complements the FPA’s existing portfolio of qualifications, which includes awards, certificates, and diplomas recognised by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual). These programs span from Level 2 to Level 4 and cover key areas such as Fire Risk Assessment, Passive Fire Protection, and Fire Door Inspection—ensuring that a wide range of professionals can access training suited to their roles and responsibilities.

Kelly Donoghue, the FPA’s Head of Training, expressed her enthusiasm about the launch: “This qualification represents a meaningful step in supporting the UK’s competency agenda. It’s been developed in direct response to the high demand we’ve seen for formal Train the Trainer programs. We’re proud to now offer an Ofqual-registered option that meets both employer expectations and the aspirations of dedicated fire safety professionals.”

With this initiative, the FPA continues its mission to promote a safer built environment by equipping professionals with the skills and credentials they need to make a difference. The new Level 3 Certificate stands not just as a qualification, but as a commitment to protecting lives and property through education and expertise.
