Gujarat Navratri 2025: Orange Alert Disrupts Garba Festivities

RR Team, October 1, 2025September 30, 2025
As Gujarat celebrates Navratri 2025, sudden rains and an orange alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) have disrupted Garba festivities across the state. Enthusiastic dancers and revelers are facing uncertainty as heavy showers continue to affect several districts, including Saurashtra, Kutch, and southern Gujarat.
The IMD issued an orange alert starting September 29, indicating heavy rainfall that is expected to persist until October 1. While North Gujarat has remained relatively unaffected, Saurashtra, Kutch, and southern districts are forecasted to face intense showers during the eighth day of Navratri, September 30. On the festival’s final day, October 1, rainfall is expected to reduce slightly but remain significant.

Garba grounds, which were bustling with energy on earlier days, turned muddy and waterlogged by September 28. Enthusiasts who had planned outdoor performances now face challenges in continuing celebrations safely. Event organizers are advising participants to take precautions, including avoiding low-lying areas and using waterproof footwear.

“The weather has added uncertainty to this year’s Navratri celebrations. Many traditional Garba venues are currently unsuitable for large gatherings due to waterlogging,” said a local event organizer in Ahmedabad. Despite this, devotees are finding creative ways to celebrate indoors and in community halls.

The IMD recommends that residents monitor local forecasts closely and adhere to safety guidelines. Authorities in Gujarat are on alert, coordinating with local civic bodies to ensure that festival activities continue without accidents or disruptions.

Residents and tourists attending Navratri events are advised to check weather updates via the IMD official portal and follow local advisories. For guidance on indoor event management and crowd safety, civic authorities have also issued precautionary instructions accessible through local government portals.

Despite the weather challenges, Navratri’s festive spirit continues. Community halls, indoor arenas, and covered venues are witnessing vibrant Garba performances, ensuring that devotees can celebrate safely while maintaining cultural traditions.
