Hope and Vigil Mark Calm After Tense Days Along India-Pakistan Border

RR Team, May 13, 2025May 13, 2025

In a welcome development following days of heightened tension, a fragile but reassuring calm has returned to parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab. As the ceasefire holds, life is cautiously returning to normal in many regions. Schools and colleges in non-border districts have reopened, children can once again be seen playing in schoolyards, and residents are beginning to step out with cautious optimism.

This renewed peace comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a solemn address to the nation, emphasizing that India’s military action—under the recently conducted Operation Sindoor—was not the end, but a pause in the country’s decisive response to terror. His message struck a chord with many across the nation who have watched the recent conflict unfold with heavy hearts and unwavering hope.

In the border areas of Rajouri and Barmer, where unexploded shells had caused anxiety among locals, the Indian Army worked tirelessly to defuse threats and ensure civilian safety. Meanwhile, in Jalandhar, a surveillance drone was brought down, demonstrating the armed forces’ continued vigilance.

Voices of political leaders echoed nationwide support for the Indian armed forces. Leaders from across the political spectrum—ruling and opposition alike—stood behind the military’s actions. From Tripura CM Manik Saha praising the Prime Minister’s moral and strategic clarity, to Congress leader Manish Tewari acknowledging the global implications of rising tensions between nuclear-armed neighbours, the sentiment was clear: India stands united against terror.

Even on the international stage, responses have stirred domestic reflection. US President Donald Trump’s comments regarding ceasefire efforts sparked political debate. Veteran leaders such as Sharad Pawar noted it was the first time an American president intervened so directly, highlighting the global community’s concern. The Congress party, while critical of the timing of Trump’s statement, asked important questions about India’s diplomatic stance.

While flights to and from several northern cities remain suspended for safety, both Air India and IndiGo have assured passengers of full support during this disruption. Despite the logistical hurdles, the mood is slowly shifting from fear to fortitude.

Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu lauded the use of indigenous defence technology during the operation, noting it as a moment of pride and progress for India. Others, like BJP MP Jagdambika Pal and Shiv Sena’s Shaina NC, reiterated India’s commitment to responding to terror with resolve—not revenge.

The human cost of conflict is always high, and the collective sigh of relief as shelling halts and drone activity declines is palpable in affected towns. Yet, the trauma of past days lingers. Many families had spent nights in shelters, their children frightened, their futures uncertain.

But with each sunrise that brings peace, hope is rekindled. Tiranga Yatras are being planned across the country to honour the armed forces. Citizens, though still vigilant, are also expressing pride, solidarity, and a fervent wish that diplomacy will prevail over destruction.

In a world often fractured by violence, the resilience of those in border towns and the quiet bravery of children returning to classrooms serve as a powerful reminder: peace is always worth pursuing, and unity in the face of adversity is India’s greatest strength.
